Overview

The Lotus Notes Client Add-In provides Lotus Notes users with a convenient way to browse and recover mail messages that were archived and removed from their Lotus Notes mailboxes. Once the e-mail messages are located, they are restored back to the All Documents view by default. In addition, a time range for the browse operation can be specified, and messages meeting the browse time range criteria can then be selected and recovered.

The Lotus Notes Client Add-In also provides the facility to archive and recover messages while offline. This capability is useful if users need to access archived mail messages but are not able to connect to the Domino Server.

Browsing Messages

Once installed on the Lotus Notes Client computer, the Lotus Notes Client Add-In is accessible from the Lotus Notes client application's Actions menu. Users simply need to click the Find and Recover menu option to launch the Add-In's Browse Option dialog box. From here, users can choose two distinct options to find their messages:

Users can also choose to exclude messages that were created prior to a specific point-in-time. This option is available when the Advanced button is clicked in the Browse Option dialog box.

Each browse option not only helps reduce the amount of time the browse operation takes to complete, but also provides users with the ability to focus on a selection of messages meeting the user's own criteria.

Recovering Messages

After selecting the necessary browse options, the Browse Window provides a list of data objects that meet the specified criteria. This window also provides the capability to select multiple or specific data object(s) that you wish to restore/recover.

In the case of Domino users, if the user name was changed after an archiving operation, when you perform the latest browse, the browse results will display the emails of both the user names.

Once the data to be recovered has been located, users can begin the recovery operation by clicking the Recover All Selected button, which immediately launches the Restore Options dialog box. Here, users can select the recovery options they desire. Messages will then be recovered in Append mode, which adds messages to the original folder regardless of whether the messages currently exist in that folder or not.

Offline Archive and Recovery

The Lotus Notes Client Add-In's Offline Archive feature allows you to retain a full copy of archived messages on the Lotus Notes client computer for recall access where a network connection is not available. These copies will reside in the original mailbox until an offline archive operation has been performed. At that point, these copies will be moved to a local cache, leaving a stub in the original mailbox.

Configuring Offline Archiving Options

Optionally, Lotus Notes Client users can configure the amount of time desired to retain messages that were archived offline. This capability helps reduce the amount of space consumed in the local computer's cache. Once these options are configured, users are automatically given an opportunity to perform a new archive operation with the new settings.

See Configure Offline Archive Options for step-by-step instructions.

Archiving Messages Offline

Users can initiate archive operations when configuring offline archiving options.

Recovering Messages Offline

Messages that have been archived offline can be recovered by simply double-clicking the stub created in the Lotus Notes client mailbox when the message was originally archived. Once an archived message's stub is double-clicked, the original message is automatically displayed and returned to its original folder and removed from the local cache.

See Recover Messages Archived Offline for step-by-step instructions.

Configuring Java Updates

The software can be configured to periodically download any available Java updates that are present on the CommCell Console. Three options are available for automatically downloading updates:

By default, these registry keys will check for and download Java updates from the CommCell Console installed on the CommServe computer.
