How this Data Protection Time Setting is Reported

Overview

The Data Protection Window allows you to precisely define the way the summaries and reports are presented for the CommCell(s). As data protection time may greatly vary in the individual CommCell(s), you have the ability to customize the Data Protection Window based on the data protection time in the individual CommCells in the CommNet domain. This customization will help you to accurately determine the behavior of every historical (or) trending view provided by the software.

The following sections provides an example of how the data protection time is used.

Data Protection Time Setting

Given below are some examples of Data Protection Windows:

CommCell A has the following Data Protection Windows:

CommCell B has the following Data Protection Window:

CommCell C has the following Data Protection Window:

The specific Data Protection Windows described above can be established in the Cell Configuration (Data Protection Window). (See Configure the Data Protection Window for step-by-step instructions on setting up the Data Protection Window.) Within this dialog box, enter the following values:

In the case of CommCell A, select the option Treat Fri to Sun as Weekend, and specify the times for Monday through Thursday and Weekend. Then set the Coverage time at 12 PM.

In the case of CommCell B, clear the option Treat Fri to Sun as Weekend, and enter the window times for Monday through Thursday and Friday through Sunday. Then set the Coverage time at 12 PM.

In the case of CommCell C, clear the option Treat Fri to Sun as Weekend, and enter the window times for Monday through Thursday and Friday through Sunday. Then set Coverage time at 6 PM.

Remember, the Coverage time should be set outside the Data Protection window. This is used to determine whether coverage exists on a specific day. Any data protection operation performed after this time is considered to have covered the data for that specific day.

How this Data Protection Time Setting is Reported

Once established, (for example) you can view the data protection jobs that have completed within the specific window in the Data Protection Window Utilization Report. Thus the ability to define the data protection time of the individual CommCells in the CommNet domain allows you to customize the reports and summaries provided by the software.

The following reports and summaries use the Data Protection Window to calculate the values that are presented. Hence customizing the Data Protection Window to reflect the data protection time in the CommCells provides an accurate interpretation in these reports and summaries.
