If the meta data is deleted from the CommServe by the data aging process, you can recover the actual backup data if it is available in the physical media using the following steps.
For example:
In the “vaulting” event where the tape is in the vault, but has been aged or deleted in the CommServe – and if the tape has not come back in to the scratch pool for overwrite - or it has not been erased – then you should be able to use this method to re-activate those old jobs by importing them back into the CommCell.
This capability is supported for Windows-based pruned and deleted data only.
Perform the following procedure to recover the pruned and deleted data on a media:

10. | Select Merge Only from the Catalog options. | |
11. | Select a Drive Pool (Media Agent) from the list. | |
12. | Click OK. The cataloged data will now be merged with CommServe database. |
13. | Right-click the Client | View | Job History. | |

16. | Right-click the Job and click Browse. | |

18. | Select the data and click Recover All Selected... | |
19. | Click OK to start the recovery operation. |
You can view the job details, logs and events from Data Recovery Job history window once the recovery operation is completed.
