About this Report

The Data Protection Window Utilization report displays a summary of backup jobs relative to the specified data protection window of your CommCells. As backup time may greatly vary for each CommCell, a data protection window is a user-defined time frame where backup jobs are scheduled to run.

When to use this Report

Use this report to analyze the number of backup jobs that completed outside the data protection window.

What this Report Contains

This report presents the data in the following sections:

Sections Sub-Sections Description
Window Utilization Overview Window Utilization Status The pie chart provides a high level summary of the number of jobs that:
  • Completed inside and outside the data protection window
  • Did not complete
Data Protection Jobs Chart (Within data protection window) For the jobs that ran within the data protection window, this chart displays the following backup status:
  • Completed
  • Failed or Killed
  • Incomplete (jobs that did not complete inside the data protection window)
Week Days Chart - This chart displays the number of jobs that started and finished inside or outside the data protection window during regular week days. This information is presented in grids of two hour intervals.

Click a bar of a given day to see an additional chart which displays the number of jobs that started and finished for each agent.

Week End Chart - This chart displays the number of jobs that started and finished inside or outside the data protection window during a weekend. This information is presented in grids of six hour intervals.

Click a bar of a given day to see an additional chart which displays the number of jobs that started and finished for each agent.

How to Generate the Report

  • From the CommNet Browser, click Reports.
  • Under Data Protection Reports, click Window Utilization Report.

  • Under Cell Selection, expand the CommCells node and select the CommCell(s) to be included in this report.
  • Click Generate.

Scheduling and Saving a Report

After a report is generated, you can schedule a new report and save it to an specific location as a PDF, excel spreadsheet or MHTML file. Scheduling and saving reports will help you analyze and compare data from your CommCells.

Follow the steps below to create a schedule:

  • Click Schedule from the top of the report window.
  • Type the name of the schedule and enter a description.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the appropriate schedule options. For example:
    • Select the time zone.
    • Select the start date and the frequency to generate the report.
    • Change the Start Time to 9:00 PM
    • Click Repeat Task and configure at which interval the schedule should be repeated.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the file format.
  • Click Save To File to save the report to a local drive or network share.

    Specify the Destination Path for the output file.

  • You can also click Send E-Mail to User(s) and/or User Groups(s) to send the report as an email attachment to a user or user group.
  • Click Finish.

The report will be generated as specified in the schedule task.

Customizations That You Can Perform With This Report

You can further customize the report by using the filters available in the report. To access the filter options, click Filters at the top of the report window as shown in the image. After making your selections, click Generate to update the report.  

The following table describes the available filter options.

Filter Description
Time Range Selection You can adjust the reporting period as follows:
  • Specify the number of days.
  • Exclude the most current data by clearing the Include current period checkbox.
  • Display the backup coverage between a specified time.
Override CommCell Weekend configuration By default, the report treats Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the WeekEnd category. You can list weekend days separately by selecting Show Friday, Saturday and Sunday as separate days.
Data Protection Jobs Chart Options By default, the chart displays stacking bars with gridlines. You can change the chart display from the Chart Type drop-down list.

You can change the chart to plot based on the job percentage by clicking Percentage.

You can also choose to display one or more coverage status by selecting them from Include Status.

Entity Selection By default, the report displays information for the selected client(s) of your CommCell. You can generate a report based on the storage policies of your CommCell by clicking Storage Policy Based.

Additional Reports

The following report is not considered a primary report as it derives from the Window Utilization report.

Data Protection Detail Report

This report provides a comprehensive list of all the backup operations for a given date. You can access this report by clicking an active bar/grid from the graphs in the main report.

You can customize this report in the following ways:

  • By filtering the backup jobs based on their status using the Filters from the top of the window.
  • By changing the default tree view of the listed jobs to a Table View.

If you require further information on a particular backup job, double-click the job from the list to access the Job Detail dialog box.
