Global Repository Cell (GRC) is a Remote Office Backup solution that automatically transfers metadata from a remote/branch office to a central CommServe. It helps in consolidating data from remote offices to the Central Office. GRC feature can also be used to achieve reporting of different remote cells from one central location with the help of CommServe Metadata.
You can create a GRC for different types of environments to make the data available to the destination CommCells in the following ways:

Notes |
Central Office |
CommServe CommNet Server |
This CommServe acts as the Global Repository Cell. Once GRC is setup, this CommServe will contain the metadata associated with all the clients in all the Remote Offices. This will in turn provide the ability to retrieve and restore data from clients in the GRC. |
Remote Office |
CommServe MediaAgent Client Agents |
Regular daily backups must be scheduled from the clients to backup the data. |
MediaAgent |
Accessible MediaAgents with disc libraries configured | Regular weekly Auxiliary Copy must be scheduled in the Remote Office using the Instance 2 of the shared MediaAgent as the target. This will enable the backup data to be transferred to the Central Office. |
GRC Process |
Imports the metadata from Remote Office and merges the information into the Central Office CommServe. Once the metadata is imported, the Remote Office Clients are visible as 'restore only' clients in the Central CommServe. These clients can be used to perform restore operations. |
