Data Processing Equipotential
The manner in which components have evolved has meant that the assemblies which
make up computers have become sensitive to high-frequency electromagnetic interference.
For computers to operate correctly, it is important to limit high-frequency risks by the
use of an equipotential earth circuit and cables screened by metal braids.
To protect persons and hardware, it is essential that the earth network corresponds to
data processing requirements and complies with standards in force.
Pre-Requisites:
- Make sure that the value of the impedance measured at the earth connection complies with
standards in force.
- If the building has several separate earth plates, they must be interconnected so as to
eliminate the risk of different transient potential differences appearing in the same
element of the installation.
- A single and equipotential earth circuit dedicated to the data processing system. The
data processing equipotential wire, which is equivalent to the electric protection,
should:
- be of the HO7V-K multi-strand flexible type
- be coloured black (noise-free neutral) and insulated along its entire length
- have a cross-section of between 25 mm2 and 95 mm2 depending on the configuration
installed. See "Earth circuit
diagram for a TN-S point connection".
