The choice of air-conditioning system should be made by a specialist, since it depends on technical and economic factors and on local conditions.
The air-conditioning system should be specific to the computing premises and fully automatic.
Any other existing system in the computing premises should be eliminated. Heating radiators are acceptable in certain ancillary premises only, but they must be equipped with thermostatic valves.
The air-conditioning system should comprise at least two redundant assemblies, each of which can provide at least 66% of the total cooling power. This is necessary to ensure that when one of the assemblies is down -- for instance for maintenance purposes -- the other one can ensure continuity of operation.
When drawing up the heat balance (in kW), account should be taken not only of the heat generated by the computing configuration, but also that generated by all other heat sources, such as:
Account should also be taken of any computer extensions when calculating the requirements of the air-conditioning installation.
As the air-conditioning system dries the air it treats in normal operation, an airwasher must be installed. The system used should be based on vapour production. This vapour is conveyed by the air delivered by the air-conditioning system.
An air moistening system is necessary. |
