The addition of new air makes it possible to increase the pressure in the data processing centre. The quantity of new air introduced into the computing room should be kept to the strict minimum. A value of 1 to 1.5 times the volume of the room per hour is generally accepted as being optimum. The advantage of increasing the pressure in the room is that it creates a movement of air towards the outside, which helps to prevent dust from entering the room. The rooms containing the CPUs and the disks are subject to a higher over-pressure than ancillary rooms such as console rooms, machining rooms, or media storage rooms.
