Isolating Transformer

Isolating transformers are generally equipped with an electrostatic screen connected to the site's "ground earth" circuit. Its construction and name mean that the primary and secondary windings are separate.

Advantages:

• It reduces contamination between the primary winding and the secondary, output, winding.
• It offers good galvanic isolation.
• It allows for the use of different neutral point connections downstream and upstream.

Disadvantage:

• No emergency power.

Other isolating transformers, known as "high-immunity" transformers, are available on the market. These devices have a very specific construction, based on the same principle (separate windings plus screen) and a higher technical level, which explains their higher price. Their main advantage is that they offer greater protection against strong electromagnetic phenomena (LF and HF).
