It will not affect any device drivers. 1. Limitations - If there is an error in loading the BMC firmware or SDRs retry loading the software by repeating the instructions in IMPORTANT INSTALLATION and SETUP NOTES/Procedures. 2. Enhancements - IPMI 3. Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - BIOS version 1.00, or later, must be installed prior to installing this firmware update. - A full backup should be completed and verified prior to running this, or any other system upgrade. - RAID configuration should be saved to a diskette: see the "Hardware Maintenance Manual" for more details. 4. Dependencies - N/A ============================================================================= Change History ============================================================================= - Version 1.30 - Added support for Power Executive including power monitoring and power capping. - Fixed Cold Reset Error after flash - Removed -5V monitoring - Sample real time clock battery more to eliminate noise - Version 1.19 - Fixed Serial Over LAN (SOL) corruption when stopping and starting the SOL session - Fixed false throttling messages appearing in the Management Module (MM) log - Updates to the timeout for a Serial Over LAN (SOL) session which resolves an issue where a customer would not be able to establish a new SOL session (SOL Not Ready). With this update the SOL session will recover once connectivity is established again. Resetting the BMC to establish the SOL session again is no longer required. - Version 1.18 - Lowered battery voltage threshold so alert is sent closer to average life of battery - Changed 12V thresholds to +-15% to allow for measurement error and noise - Version 1.17 - Added support for OpenIPMI flashing - Version 1.16 - Corrected some 12V sensor thresholds. - Changed real time clock battery sensor nominal and threshold values to be based on 3V. - Version 1.15 - fixed problem where Blade Fault LED was not being turned on, when PEU2 Power Good Fault is detected. - Version 1.14 - fixed erroneous over voltage readings on PEU2 expansion card 1V voltage sensor - Version 1.13 - fixed defect where daughter card in slot 3 is not recognized when daughter card slot 2 is empty (the blade is not given power permission) - fixed the BMC comminucation errors seen with feature card installed - Version 1.12 - Implemented fix to clear SP communication issues - Version 1.11 - fixed a "power key" bug (this problem is not visible to the customer) - added support for power executive phase 1 - changed soft shutdown temperatures for expansion cards - Version 1.10 - fixed defect where daughter cards were not recognized ( in version 1.08 ) - fixed problem with iSCSI Initiator Parmater support - Version 1.09 - fixed iSCSI Initiator VPD Area Unlock Timer issue (this problem is not visible to the customer) - Version 1.08 - fixed Wake-On-Lan disappearing after an update of the BMC - added support for ISCSI Initiator - added support for PCI Expansion Unit 2 - added soft shutdown feature - Version 1.07 - Fixed Problem with Blades not throttling when Acoustic Mode is enabled. - Fixed problems with voltages and temperatures not displayed in MM. - Fixed false reporting of proc hot conditions - Version 1.06 - Fixed a throttling bug in power management (this problem is not visible to the customer) - Version 1.05 - Corrected minor offset in BSE 1.5V, and 12V Sense lines - Corrected erroneous CPU mismatch seen with BSE installed - Version 1.04 - Improved BMC Diskette flash performance while Hardware Flow Control is enabled - Version 1.03 - Increase SOL buffer size to reduce SOL character faults - optimized SOL code for increased character transfer - added support for pass 6 planar - Version 1.02 - SOL session no longer drops during a reboot - Version 1.01 - Corrected "Power Good Fault" operation - Management Module can now read VPD from Blade Storage Expansion card - Support for Low Voltage Nocona added - corrected IPMI UUID response - corrected power management values when an expansion card is present - Version 1.00 - Original Release ============================================================================= IMPORTANT INSTALLATION and SETUP NOTES/Procedures ============================================================================= To use this diskette, perform the following steps: a) Make sure BIOS version 1.00, or later, is installed. b) Make sure your system is powered down. c) Insert the diskette in the diskette drive. d) Power on your system to boot from diskette drive. If your system does not boot from the diskette, use POST/BIOS setup utility to configure the diskette drive as a boot device. e) Once your system boots, a ramdrive will be created, the appropriate files will be copied to this ramdrive and the BMC update firmware update will execute automatically. f) When the update completes, remove the diskette from the drive and restart the system. SBCE CMM Web GUI Update ********** REQUIRED: MAKE SURE THE BLADE IS POWERED OFF AND ALL BLADES ********** ********** ARE DISCOVERED BEFORE FLASHING ********** 1) To install the Integrated System Management Processor firmware from the Chassis Management Module (CMM) web interface, perform the following steps: a) Open a Web browser. In the address or URL field, type the IP address or host name of the CMM to which you want to connect. The Enter Network Password window opens. Note: The CMM defaults to DHCP. If a DHCP host is unavailable, the CMM assigns a static IP address of 192.168.70.125. b) Type your user name and password in the Enter Network Password window. c) Select a timeout value, in minutes, in the field provided. If your browser is inactive for that number of minutes, the CMM logs you off the Web interface. d) Click Continue to start the session. The browser opens the System Health page, which gives you a quick view of the system status. e) In the navigation frame, click Firmware Update under Blade Tasks, select the Target blade slot number, then click Browse. f) Switch to the drive and directory containing the unpackaged files. Navigate to the PKT file you want to update, named as: BWBTxxy.PKT (Where xx = build ID, and y = revision.) g) Click Open. The file (including the full path) appears in the box beside Browse. h) To begin the update process, click Update. A progress indicator opens as the file is transferred to temporary storage. A confirmation page opens when the file transfer is completed and the Integrated System Management Processor has been restarted. ***Note: To cancel this process at any point, click Cancel*** 2) In Case of a failed SBCE CMM Web GUI Update flash a) Only one blade can be in kernel mode in a chassis at one time. b) The CMM has known issues if a flash fails. The easiest way to recover is to: 1) Pull the failed blade from the chassis 2) Reset the CMM 3) Reinsert the failed blade 4) Retry the flash on the failed blade after the blades have all been discovered. ============================================================================= Unattended Mode ============================================================================= Steps for unattended mode: 1. Boot to DOS 2. Create a directory for your BMC flash files. 3. Copy the following files from the"BMC Flash Disk" to the same directory on some media capable of storing 2.5MB of data. - "update.bat" - "flash.exe" - "bmc_cfg.exe" - "fullfw.mot" - "intf.ini" 4. From the directory just copied to, run "update.bat". ============================================================================= Support Web Site ============================================================================= http://www.intel.com ============================================================================= REFERENCE MATERIAL ============================================================================= Intel(R) Server Management Module SBCECMM: User's Guide Intel(R) Server Compute Blade SBX82: Installation and User's Guide This guide may be found on the support resource CDs, the Intel Business Link support site, or may be obtained from your Intel support representative.
