The Firmware Update inventories your system, generates a comparison report, and applies update packages to your system in step-by-step manner. 1) Insert the Systems Build and Update Utility DVD in your system drive and reboot your system. 2) Press F11 to enter in the Bios Boot Manager and select the CD/DVD ROM as the boot device. NOTE: If the Boot mode is configured to UEFI in your system, set it to BIOS before performing the firmware update and reset it to UEFI after the updates are applied. 3) Select Dell Systems Build and Update Utility which will take you to the Dell Systems Build and Update Utility Home screen after a reboot. Wait 1-2 minutes for the GUI to load. 4) On the Dell Systems Build and Update Utility Home screen, click Configure against Firmware Update or click Firmware Update on the left pane. 5) The Repository Selection screen of the Firmware Update module appears. Keep the default value for the repository location : CD/DVD ROM. Click Continue. 6) The Firmware Update inventories your system and generates a comparison report on the Comparison Report screen. This screen displays a comparison of the currently installed version of each component on the existing system with the repository component version for the same system. It also indicates the components that you need to upgrade. NOTE: You can selectively upgrade components depending on your requirement. Select any components that you might want to upgrade and click Systems Build and Update Utility Home. 7) To update your current system, click Apply/Export Configuration on the Systems Build and Update Utility Home screen. The Configure Apply /Export Options screen appears. On the next page, check both the "Apply Configuration to Current System" and "Exit on Failure" check boxes. Click "Apply/Export" to begin the upgrade process. The progress bar appears. The SBUU will then check the server status and apply all updates. This process may take some time to complete so be patient. If there are any issues, the SBUU will exit upon failure. 8) Once the server reboots (back into SBUU) follow step 4-5 again to enter into the Firmware Upgrade page. Make sure all updates you selected to apply have successfully been updated. It will contain a green check arrow if fully up to date. If everything is completed, you can exit SBUU now. 9) Make sure to put your BIOS back into UEFI mode (if needed). Restrictions for Firmware Update Feature ---------------------------------------- Bios and Lifecycle controller update packages are not supplied in the repository and can't be updated using the SBUU tool.
