Media Management Configuration (Service Configuration)

Use this dialog box to establish advanced media management parameters.

The properties in this dialog box are for advanced users. We strongly recommend that you understand the implication of these properties before modifying the default values.

The following properties are displayed:

Consider inactive copy for auxiliary copy check by Data Aging Specifies that the source copy data will not be pruned if it is not copied on the inactive copy. Set it to 0 to disable the feature.
Consider partial successful Full job as valid Full job Specifies that a partially successful job will be considered as a valid full job; thereby, not pruned until all retention rules have been met. Set it to 0 to disable the feature.
Days to keep the archiver restore job histories Specifies the number of days to retain the archiver restore job history data before it is pruned. Default value is set at 0. Note that when the value is set to 0, the retention is set to infinite and not zero days.

This setting is applicable only for Exchange Compliance Archiver. All other archiver restore job histories will be pruned based on the ‘Days to keep the backup job histories’ parameter.

Days to keep failed/killed backup job and other job histories Specifies the number of days to retain backup job history data before it is pruned. This applies to: auxiliary copy jobs, stub recall jobs, failed jobs, killed jobs, jobs that failed to start, replication backup jobs and non-archive restore jobs. Default value is set at 90.
Days to keep the Data Management and Collection Job Histories Specifies the number of days the data management and data collection jobs histories are preserved.
Days to keep invalid chunks Specify the number of days the invalid chunks are preserved. Default value is set at 3.
Days to keep successful backup job histories Specifies the number of days to retain successfully completed backup job history data after it is pruned. Default value is set at 7.
Disable/Enable SRM pruning Specifies whether data from SRM jobs can be pruned. The value '1' represents Yes, and value '0' represents No. Default value is set to 1.
Ignore Compliance Policy Check for Job Pruning Specifies whether or not to ignore the Compliance Policy Check for Job Pruning. The value '1' represents Yes, and value '0' represents No. Default value is set to 0.
Ignore Cycles Retention on De-Configured Clients Specifies whether or not to ignore the defined retention cycle rules for data associated with deconfigured clients. The value '1' represents Yes, and value '0' represents No. Default value is set to 0.
Prune All Database Agent Logs Only By Days Retention Rule Specifies whether or not to ignore the log rule for all Database agents. The value '1' represents Yes, and value '0' represents No. Default value is set to 0.
Automatic Drive Cleaning check interval in Minutes Specifies how often the Media & Library Manager service on the CommServe should check for drives that require cleaning and start cleaning these drives, if the Enable Auto-Cleaning options are enabled in the Drive tab of the Library Properties dialog box.
Per File Fragmentation Threshold Specifies the number of fragmentation allowed for each file. The default value is set to 10.
Mount Path Fragmentation Threshold Percentage Specifies the fragmentation threshold percentage for the mount path. If the fragmentation on the mount path crosses this threshold, then the Library Management Maintenance Required alert, if configured, will be triggered. The default value is set at 100 percentage.
Ignore media and drive use count threshold for Virtual Tape Libraries Specifies whether the media and drive count threshold is ignored for Virtual Tape Libraries. The value '1' represents Yes, and value '0' represents No.
LAN-Free MediaAgent liveliness check interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the LAN-free MediaAgent (MediaAgent and Client are on the same computer) will execute a liveliness check. These intervals tend to be larger, as fewer liveliness checks are needed for a LAN-free environment.
LAN MediaAgent liveliness check interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the LAN MediaAgent (MediaAgent and Client are not on the same computer) will execute a liveliness check. These intervals tend to be smaller, as frequent liveliness checks are needed for a network environment.
Library Arm Controller failover interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the library will be checked for being offline, at which point the fail-over system will take over.
Ignore Cycles Retention On De-Configured Clients Specifies whether or not to ignore the retention cycles for deconfigured clients. The value '1' represents Yes, and value '0' represents No. The default value is set to '0'.
Default low-water mark for newly created Scratch Pools Specifies the threshold of scratch pools per library. If the number of scratch pools falls below the defined threshold, events will be triggered, and alerts, if configured, will be triggered as well.
Magnetic volume physical size high watermark in GB Specifies the maximum size of the magnetic volumes, reaching which, a new volume will be created. The default value is set to 100 GB. Minimum value is 1 GB.
Media Management Maintenance Check Interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the following media management maintenance issues will be checked:
  • Disk space thresholds
  • Media being offline
  • Media that needs to be marked as corrupted
If any of these items fail to meet the defined thresholds, events will be triggered, and alerts, if configured, will be triggered as well.
Maximum allowed number of drive reservations per NAS Filer Specifies the number of tape drives that can be in use on a particular NAS file server. This is useful since some file servers have a limit to the number of concurrent backup or restore jobs that can be run. The number entered will limit the number of tape drives that can be in use at a given time. For example, if five backup jobs were started for a particular NAS file server, but the number specified with this option was set to four, then the fifth job will be held in a waiting state until one of the jobs completes.
Interval (in minutes) to free the Silo Cache Specifies the interval at which the Silo cache will be refreshed. Default value is set at 1440 minutes. Note that when the value is set to zero, Silo cache refresh will be disabled.
Interval (in minutes) to calculate valid data size for streams Specifies the interval at which the valid data is checked to calculate the data size for streams. Default interval is set at 60 minutes.
Threshold (in GB) to decide how to distribute data among streams for backup Specifies the threshold that decides the data distribution among streams. Default threshold is set at 500 GB.
Hours after being marked as Full for migration Silo volumes to tape Specifies the number of hours the Silo volumes that are marked Full must be retained in the magnetic media, before moving it to tape storage. The default value is set to 8 hours. A value of zero implies all full magnetic volumes will be marked for migration as part of Silo Archival Job, as long as the volume is not in use.
Interval (Hours) between Auxiliary Copy Fallen Behind alerts Specifies the interval at which the storage policy will be checked for the following criteria:
  • data to be copied is more than n GB
  • jobs have not been copied in more than n days

(n is set by the user in the Storage Policy Properties (Advanced) window.)

If the defined thresholds have been met, an alert, if configured, will be triggered. Default interval is set at 24 hours.

Interval (Minutes) between magnetic space updates Specifies how often the disk space information is updated for mount paths associated with magnetic libraries.

Also, if Enable Managed Disk Space for magnetic data option is enabled in the Retention tab of the Copy Properties dialog box, data is also deleted (if necessary) if it has been marked for deletion by a Data Aging operation. The default value is set to 30 minutes. If the value is set to zero, then the disk space information is updated every 10 minutes.

Interval (hours) between marking large magnetic volumes full Specifies the interval (hours) between marking all magnetic volumes full. The default value is set to 8 hours. A value of zero implies the default value.
Number of magnetic folders to process in a single Data Aging request Specifies the number of folders that will be processed in a single request as part of magnetic disk cleanup.
Export Operation Retry Count Specifies the number of times an export operation must be retried by the MediaAgent when a mail slot is full.
Time in hours to show the Vault Tracker history in actions pane Specifies the time in hours for which the Vault Tracker history will be displayed in the actions pane in the CommCell Console. The default value is set to zero, which displays the history for 15 minutes.
Skip job on read errors during Auxiliary Copy Specifies whether the system will skip the chunks with read errors during an Auxiliary Copy operations.

A value of 0 indicates that the Auxiliary Copy job will fail  with the error " Auxiliary Copy job Failed to copy or verify chunk".

A value of 1 indicates that the Auxiliary Copy job will skip the chunk and continue the operation.

Interval (Minutes) between Vault Tracker alerts Specifies the minimum interval that is used between Vault Tracker related alerts in minutes
Days to keep Vault Tracker records Specifies the number of days the Vault Tracker  history will be retained.
Vault Tracker export retry interval in minutes Specifies the time in minutes after which the Vault Tracker retries an export operation.
