Add/Modify an Exclusion for the Exclusions List
Before You Begin
- Review Global Filters.
- Do not change the Global Filter for subclients that have a data protection operation in progress.
- Performing a full backup after changing Global Filters is recommended.
- When you change a Global Filter, the change is effective the next time a data protection operation is run on the applicable subclients.
Required Capability: Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To add
or modify an exclusion to the exclusions list:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe, click Control Panel, and then click Global Filters.
- From the Global Filters
window, select the appropriate agent option from the Global Filter
Category windowpane for the exclusions list you want to define.
- For File System iDataAgents,
perform one of the following actions:
- To add a file or folder that will be excluded from backups, click Browse and select the desired path.
Click OK.
- To add a file, folder or pattern that will be excluded from backups, click Add,
and in the Enter Path dialog box, type the complete path (including
drive letter) of the file, folder, or wildcard pattern that you want to
exclude. Click OK.
- To modify an existing filter entry, select the entry in the display
pane, then click Modify. In the Enter Path dialog box, type in
your modification to the complete path (including drive letter) of the
file, folder, or wildcard pattern that you want to exclude. Click OK.

iDataAgents. Repeat this step if you want to
add or modify more files and/or folders for the filter.
- For Exchange Mailbox-based agents, perform one of the following
actions:
- To add a mailbox folder that will be excluded from data
protection operations, on the Exclude Folder tab, click Add,
and in the Enter Folder Name (or Enter Path) dialog box, type in the
mailbox folder path that you want to exclude. Click OK.
- To add a mailbox folder pattern that will be excluded from data
protection operations, click the Exclude Folder Patterns tab, click Add,
and in the Enter Folder Name (or Enter Path) dialog box, type in the
wildcard pattern of the mailbox folders that you want to exclude. Click
OK.
- To modify an existing filter entry on either the Exclude Folder
tab or Exclude Folder Patterns tab, select the entry in the display
pane and click Modify. In the Enter Folder Name (or Enter Path) dialog box, type in
your modification to the mailbox folder name or wildcard pattern that you want to exclude.
Click OK.

for the filter.
- If applicable, you can select the Use CommNet Global Filter checkbox
to have CommNet Global Filter exclusions applied to this CommCell.
- To save your changes to the global filter, click OK.

To configure Global Filters for an OES File System iDA you must create
and associate the subclient with Unix File System global filters.

Delete an Exclusion from the Exclusions List
Before You Begin

- Do not change the Global Filter for subclients that have a data protection operation in progress.
- Performing a full backup after changing Global Filters is recommended.
- When you change a Global Filter, the change is effective the next time a data protection operation is run on the applicable subclients.
Required Capability: Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To delete an exclusion from the exclusions list:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe, click Control Panel, and then click Global Filters.
- From the Global Filters
window, select the appropriate agent option from the Global Filter
Category windowpane for the exclusions list you want to delete.
- Select the file, folder path, mailbox folder or wildcard expression from the Exclusions list you wish to delete, and then click Delete. (Repeat this step for each entry that you want to delete.)
- To save your changes to the global filter, click OK.
Disable Global Filters on a Subclient
Before You Begin
- Review Global Filters.
- Do not disable the Global Filter for a subclient that has a data protection operation in progress.
- Performing a full backup after disabling the Global Filter on a subclient is recommended.
- When you disable the Global Filter on a subclient, the change is effective the next time a data protection operation is run on the subclient.
Required Capability: Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To disable the Global Filter on a subclient:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the subclient whose Global Filter you want to disable, and then click Properties from the shortcut menu.
- Click the Filters tab of the Subclient Properties dialog box.
- To disable Global Filters on this subclient, select one of the following
values from the Include Global Filters list:
- OFF - select this option to
always disable Global Filters for this subclient.
- Use Cell Level Policy - select this option to disable
Global Filters for this subclient only when the Use Global Filters on
All Subclients option is disabled on the Control Panel (Global
Filters) dialog.
- Click OK to save your changes.
Enable Global Filters on a Subclient
Before You Begin
- Review Global Filters.
- This procedure assumes that you have previously established CommCell Level Global Filters. See Add an Exclusion to the Exclusions List for step-by-step instructions.
- Do not enable the Global Filter for a subclient that has a data protection operation in progress.
- Performing a full backup after enabling the Global Filter on a subclient is recommended.
- When you enable the Global Filter on a subclient, the change is effective the next time a data protection operation is run on the subclient.
Required Capability: Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To enable the Global Filter on a subclient:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the subclient whose Global Filter you want to enable, and then click Properties from the shortcut menu.
- Click the Filters tab of the Subclient Properties dialog box.
- To enable Global Filters on this subclient, select one of the following
values from the Include Global Filters list:
- ON - select this option to
always enable Global Filters for this subclient.
- Use Cell Level Policy - select this option to enable
Global Filters for this subclient only when the Use Global Filters on
All Subclients option is enabled on the Control Panel (Global
Filters) dialog.
- Click OK to save your changes.
Enable CommNet Global Filters for a CommCell
