New Features - Microsoft Windows File System iDataAgent

This release of the software includes the following new features:

Command Line Interface

The qoperation backup command now supports a data path option. This option allows you to specify the MediaAgent, libraries, drive pools, and scratch pools for the backup.

Data Protection Operations

• When configuring backup sets on computers with both Windows File System iDataAgent and File Archiver Agent installed, you can now select any of the available scan options - Change Journal, Classic File Scan, or Data Classification. (The scan will no longer default to Classic File Scan.) See Using Change Journal, Classic File Scan, or Data Classification Enabler for Backups for more information.

• VSS (MS Shadow Copy) is now the default snap engine used for data backups. For Windows 2000, QSnap will continue to be the default snap engine. You can no longer use QSnap for snapshots on Windows Server 2008.

Data Recovery Operations

• Overwrite options for the File System iDataAgents and File Archiver Agents now include the following enhancements:

  • Option to overwrite data only if the data on the media is newer than the data on the destination computer
  • Option to overwrite data only if the data still exists on the destination computer

  These capabilities provide greater control over how and when data should be restored/recovered during data recovery options, thus protecting against overwrites that were not intended to occur.

• When performing Basic Restore (restore by path), you can now restore point-in-time data by specifying time range options in the new Time Range tab in the advanced restore options. See Basic Restore for more information.

Deployment

• It is now possible to create your own custom installation package containing a selected subset of components in the Calypso software suite. This reduced package is a self-extracting executable file containing the components along with the installation options and parameters. Reduced Package is ideal for mass deployment of the software. See Reduced Package for more information.

  This feature/product/platform requires a special software installation package. Contact your software provider to obtain this package.

• Silent Install for Windows now supports Multi Instancing; parameters can be specified for Instance number, GxCVD and GxEvMgrC port numbers, Client Group Name, and Storage Policy in the .ini file used when performing a Silent Install.

• During software installations, the Select Platforms window will display the User Registry Keys field when GalaxyInstallerFlags registry keys have been enabled on the computer. Hover over the field to see which keys have been set, as well as their values. For more information, see Deployment.

• Upgrades can be configured to execute automatically for supported clients and MediaAgents, which expedites and facilitates the upgrade process for your CommCell environment. For more information, see Automatic Upgrade.

Filters

Global Filters have been enhanced to provide more granular control at the subclient level to automate the inheritance of Global Filter exclusions from the CommServe level. The new Auto option provides a means to easily enable and disable Global Filters for all applicable subclients through a centralized setting. For more information, see Global Filters.

Office Communications Server

The Windows File System iDataAgent now provides the ability to perform data protection operations for data associated with the Office Communications Server. See Office Communications Server for more details.
