A

Admissible Q-Factor

Sets the benchmark level that is used to flag the CommCells, clients, applications, or subclients which do not have acceptable data protection coverage.

B

Billable Entity

Distributes costs for storage entities to objects within an organization.

C

Cell Client Groups

A feature which allows the creation of logical client groups for the purpose of analyzing specific applications or application types in the entire CommNet domain.

Client Computer Group

A logical grouping of client computers in which selected options can apply to all member clients.

CommCell

Used interchangeably with the term CommServe. Includes all the clients, MediaAgents, and storage resources of a CommServe computer.

CommCell Administration

A user group capability that permits members of the user group to administer a CommCell.

CommNet Administration

A user group capability that permits members of the user group to administer the CommNet Server.

CommNet Agent

The software component that resides on the CommServe or the CommServe computer.

CommNet Browser

The graphical user interface of the software, run as a stand-alone application or remote web-based application.

CommNet Domain

Includes the CommCells and QSMCells that are registered with the CommNet Server.

CommNet Server Service

A service required for the CommNet Browser to operate and for the CommNet Server to receive updates from the CommCells within the CommNet domain.

Cost Category

Represents the estimated per megabyte cost to store and protect data on a type of storage entity.

D

Data Collection Policy

A logical entity which can be used to specify how often the system must automatically collect data from each CommCell and QSMCell.

Data Protection Window

E

Explicit Association

The manual association of a storage entity to a cost category from a CommCell Console or a QSM Console.

G

Global Filters

A feature which allows the definition of files/folder exclusions for data protection operations across multiple CommCells within the CommNet domain.

I

Implicit Association

The automatic association of a drive type to a cost category in a CommCell.

L

Library Type

Library types can be one of the following: Tape, Optical, StandAlone Tape, or Magnetic.

N

Notification Criteria

Notification criteria determines when and at which frequency and alert is sent to a recipient. An alert can be sent immediately after a condition occurs, or after the condition has persisted for a certain length of time. An alert can also be repeated, if necessary.

Q

Q-Factor

Measures the data protection coverage aspects in short-term and various long-term intervals in order to determine if the data protection coverage for CommCells, clients, applications, or subclients are within an acceptable level or not.

QSM Administration

A user group capability that permits members of the user group to administer a QSMCell.

QSMCell

QSMCells refers to 7.0.0 and earlier versions of the software. In the current version, QSM software has been merged with the CommCell Data Management Suite and QSM components are renamed as SRM components.

Thus, in the CommNet software, SRM components are represented as part of the CommCell. QSMCells therefore refers to an earlier version as stated above and are represented as a separate entity under QSMCells level in the CommNet Browser.

R

Registration

A feature used to initialize the CommCells and/or QSMCells in the CommNet Server.

S

Synchronize Cells

A feature which is used to transfer the data from the CommCells and/or QSMCells to make CommNet Server up-to-date.

T

Threshold Criteria

The threshold criteria of an alert determines at which level the condition within an entity must be reached before an alert is sent. This criteria can be percentage or value based. For example, if the threshold criteria is percentage based with a value of 12% for a Drives Offline alert, then when 12% or more of all the total drives within the entity go offline, an alert notification is sent to a recipient. Similarly, for example, if the same alert is value based with a value of 1, then when one or more of all the total drives within the entity go offline, an alert notification is sent to a recipient.

U

User

Performs software functions allowed by its member user group based on the capabilities of the user group.

User Group

A user group is a logical entity through which capabilities are assigned. A user group can either administer the CommNet Server, CommCell(s), QSMCell(s), or a combination of all three.
