Media Management Configuration (Service Configuration)

Use this dialog box to establish advanced media management parameters.

The properties in this dialog box are for advanced users. We strongly recommend that you understand the implication of these properties before modifying the default values.

The following properties are displayed:

Automatic Drive Cleaning check interval in Minutes Specifies how often the Media & Library Manager service on the CommServe should check for drives that require cleaning and start cleaning these drives, if the Enable Auto-Cleaning options are enabled in the Drive tab of the Library Properties dialog box.
Default low-water mark for newly created Scratch Pools Specifies the threshold of scratch pools per library. If the number of scratch pools falls below the defined threshold, events will be triggered, and alerts, if configured, will be triggered as well.
Deletion of Jobs will not force full on next backup Specifies that if a job is pruned, the next job will not automatically be forced to be a full backup, it will be a differential backup. Default value is set at 0, which indicates the feature is disabled. Set it to 1 to enable the feature.
Export Operation Retry Count Specifies the number of times an export operation must be retried by the MediaAgent when a mail slot is full. the default is 10.
Fail CommCell Migration for Unsupported Applications Specifies that CommCell Migration will fail if unsupported applications are found during migration operations. Default value is set at 1, which indicates the feature is enabled. Set it to 0 to disable the feature.
Ignore media and drive use count threshold for Virtual Tape Libraries Specifies whether the media and drive count threshold is ignored for Virtual Tape Libraries. The value '1' represents Yes, and value '0' represents No.
Interval (hours) between marking large disk volumes full Specifies the interval (hours) between marking all disk volumes full. The default value is 8 hours.
Interval (in minutes) to clean up deleted storage policies or copies Specifies the time in minutes for cleaning up deleted storage policies. The default value is 30 minutes.
Interval (Minutes) between disk space updates Specifies how often the disk space information is updated for mount paths associated with disk libraries.

Also, if Enable Managed Disk Space for disk data option is enabled in the Retention tab of the Copy Properties dialog box, data is also deleted (if necessary) if it has been marked for deletion by a Data Aging operation. The default value is 30 minutes. If the value is set to zero, then the disk space information is updated every 10 minutes.

LAN-Free MediaAgent liveliness check interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the LAN-free MediaAgent (MediaAgent and Client are on the same computer) will execute a liveliness check. These intervals tend to be larger, as fewer liveliness checks are needed for a LAN-free environment.
LAN MediaAgent liveliness check interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the LAN MediaAgent (MediaAgent and Client are not on the same computer) will execute a liveliness check. These intervals tend to be smaller, as frequent liveliness checks are needed for a network environment.
Library Arm Controller failover interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the library will be checked for being offline, at which point the fail-over system will take over.
Maximum number of Exported (CCM) Dump sets to be retained in any dump location Specifies the number of dump sets (which contain the Disaster Recovery backup files) to be retained in any dump location. Default value is set at 10.
Maximum number to retries on snap operation Specifies the number of retries for mount, unmount, or other operations after which the operation is not attempted anymore automatically. The default is 5.
Maximum size per batch to process managed disk space Specifies the maximum size per batch to process managed disk space. By default this value is set to 50,000. You can set the value between 512 - 1,000,000.

If the specified value is less than 512, it will automatically updated to 512.

Media Management Maintenance Check Interval in Minutes Specifies the interval at which the following media management maintenance issues will be checked:
  • Disk space thresholds
  • Media being offline
  • Media that needs to be marked as corrupted
If any of these items fail to meet the defined thresholds, events will be triggered, and alerts, if configured, will be triggered as well.
Mount Path Fragmentation Threshold Percentage Specifies the fragmentation threshold percentage for the mount path. If the fragmentation on the mount path crosses this threshold, then the Library Management Maintenance Required alert, if configured, will be triggered. The default value is set at 100 percentage.
Number of days in advance to trigger alert for low disk space for disk library Specifies the number of days in advance that you receive an alert that a disk library is about to run out of space (low disk space alert).

The default value is 0 (not enabled). When you specify a value greater than 0, you receive a low disk space alert n days before the disk library runs out of space (where n = the value specified). You must set up the alert notification separately from setting this option.

Number of disk folders to process in a single Data Aging request Specifies the number of folders that will be processed in a single request as part of disk cleanup. The default is 1000.
Number of Subclients to be stored in a single dump file (exported by CCM) Specifies the number of subclients in each dump file.
Per File Fragmentation Threshold Specifies the number of fragmentation allowed for each file. The default value is set to 10.
Provide user with MediaAgent management rights additional capabilities for libraries, data paths, and storage policies Specifies how MediaAgent Management permissions are checked for a user.
  • If this value is set to 1, the user will have the following additional rights to manage the MediaAgent they have rights on:
    • Configure or deconfigure libraries and drives.
    • Create, update or delete a Storage Policy with libraries and drives on the MediaAgent.
    • Add data paths to the MediaAgent.
    • Add the user group (the user belongs) to the newly-configured libraries.
  • If this value is set to 0, the additional operations are not supported - reverts back to the default behavior. In the default behavior, the user must have Storage Policy Management and Administrative Management rights to perform the above operations.
Setting this will retain scratch media information when deconfiguring library Specifies weather the scratch (new/aged) media information will be retained when a tape library is deconfigured. Default value is set at 0, which indicates the feature is disabled. Set it to 1 to enable the feature.
Show hidden storage policies Specifies whether hidden storage policies are visible in the CommCell Console.
  • If this value is set to 0, storage policies with the Hide Storage Policy option selected are not visible from the CommCell Console GUI.  Additionally, creating or editing a subclient, the storage policy cannot be selected.
  • If this value is set to 1, all storage policies remain visible, and all previously hidden storage policies become visible.
SIDB Reconstruction prune replay retry count Specifies the number of times SIDB Reconstruction has to replay the prune records before reporting failure. The default is 60.
