Subclient Properties (Content)

Use this tab to define the contents of a new subclient or to change the content of an existing subclient. Databases/storage groups/database files/subsets that are included in subclient content are backed up by the subclient. Note that all the options described in this help may not be available and only the options displayed in the dialog box are applicable to the agent or enabler for which the information is being displayed.

Contents of subclient

Displays a list of databases/storage groups/database files included as content for this subclient.

Click to discover and change the associations of the database elements/storage groups to the subclients. Any content included for a user-defined subclient will be automatically excluded from the default subclient.

Backup Data

Entire Database

Specifies whether the entire database will be included in the subclient content.

Online Backup

Specifies that backups for this subclient will be run with the database online. If a backup is run with the database online, other applications can access the database while the backup is in progress. Online backups are available only for databases configured with the logretain parameter enabled.

Offline Backup

Specifies that backups for this subclient will be run with the database offline. If a backup is run with the database offline, this job has an exclusive connection to the database; therefore, any other access to the database is not allowed while the backup is in progress. An offline backup cannot run if any other applications are already running on the database.

Back up Log Files

Specifies whether log files will be backed up for this subclient, and enables/disables the option to Delete Log Files After a backup. When cleared, you must select the Backup Data option on the Content tab.

In most cases, to back up DB2 archive logs, be sure to set the USEREXIT parameter to "ON".  For USEREXIT=OFF, you should back up only either offline databases or online databases without the logs. You cannot use the USEREXIT parameter to back up DB2 DPF archive logs.

If you want to back up DB2 or DB2 DPF archive logs using the SBT interface, be sure to set the LOGARCHMETH1 parameter to "VENDOR", the LOGRETAIN parameter to "ON",  the TRACKMOD parameter to "ON" and the USEREXIT parameter to "OFF" as discussed in Books Online.

Delete Log Files After

Specifies whether to delete the log files from the DB2 DPF log path and the archive path after a backup but still keep the files in the backup media. This field is active only when the Back up Log Files option is selected.
