Hardware Guidelines

This view displays the details of the hardware included in all the CommCells found within the CommNet domain. Users should refer to this view to  troubleshoot scalability issues in their CommNet environment.

Hardware Categories

This section defines the possible hardware categories for the computers within the CommNet domain. The predefined categories are: Workgroup, Data Center, and Enterprise, which are determined by the following:

CommCell Hardware Category Info

This section displays the CommCells found within the CommNet domain, and their respective hardware category classification details.

Scalability Benchmark

This section displays the recommended scalability benchmark level information per hardware category per CommCell version. Information here will include: the recommended number of configured clients, MediaAgents, libraries, tape drives, etc., to maintain per hardware category (per CommCell version) in order to avoid scalability issues. Ignoring these recommendations can lead to insufficient resources for running operations within the CommNet domain, which can leave data unprotected.

NOTES

The recommended No. of Accumulated DP Operations refers to the number of completed data protection operations, which does not include those operations that have been pruned. The Amount of Protected Data refers to the amount of data that has been protected during operations, again, excluding those that have been pruned. The Peak No. of Total Jobs in Last 24 Hours refers to the peak total number of jobs in both running and waiting states in the last 24-hour period, while the Total No. of Jobs in Last 24 Hours refers to the total number of jobs that have completed in the last 24-hour period for this hardware category. Note that the last 24-hour period starts from when this view is generated.

Hardware Guidelines

This section displays the actual information for the CommNet's existing hardware categories. If any of the configurations exceed the recommendations specified in the Scalability Benchmark table, the Scalability Attention Required field will display a Yes. CommCells that require attention are indicated by a yellow icon and their managed entities that exceed the recommended benchmark are highlighted in red. It is important not to ignore this warning. A scalability issue can lead to insufficient resources for running operations within the CommNet domain, which can leave data unprotected.

NOTES

The following fields are only valid for previous releases: No. of Libraries, No. of Accumulated DP Operations, No. of Clients, and Amount of Protected Data. An N/A will be displayed in these columns for those clients running at the current release.
