Media Management Cleaning Media Report
Use this report to check the average usage of cleaning media libraries as
well as the cleaning media detail per library for the selected CommCell(s).
Running this report can help detect issues with the drives and or cleaning
media, e.g., if cleaning media averages are consistently high for a specific
library, this may indicate that there is an issue with the library's associated
drives.
The
following details are provided in this report:
Cleaning Media Library Usage
- Library Name
The name of the cleaning media library.
- Total Number of Media
The total number of cleaning media associated with the library.
- Total Number of Used Media
The total number of cleaning media used within the library.
- Average Usage
The average usage of the library's cleaning media. This average is
calculated by the following, the Total Usage number divided by
the Total Number of Media.
For example, a library can have 10 cleaning media associated with it, with a
total usage of 40. The average usage for the cleaning media within this
library is 4. Note that expired media are included in average usage
calculations.
- Total Usage
The total number of times cleaning media have been used within the library.
Cleaning Media Detail
- Library Name
The name of the library associated with the selected cleaning medium.
- Barcode
The Barcode given to the selected cleaning
medium.
- Creation Time
The selected cleaning medium's time of discovery.
- Expired
Indicates whether the selected cleaning
medium is expired, i.e., exceeded its usage threshold. Note that expired
media is included in usage average calculations.
- Number of Uses
The number of times the selected cleaning medium has been used.
- Threshold
The threshold for number of uses, which can be viewed and
modified from the Drive Cleaning tab of the Hardware Maintenance
Thresholds dialog box in the CommCell Console.
- Average Usage
The average usage of the cleaning medium (14-day basis). This average is
calculated by the following, the total usage for the selected time range
divided by the number of 14-day intervals that have passed within the
selected time range. For example, a cleaning medium was created (discovered) on January 1, 2008,
and a cleaning media report is run on January 30th, with a selected time range of
the last 30 days. The average usage will be calculated as follows:
- During the first-week period, January 1st - 7th (7 days), the selected cleaning
medium was used 9 times.
- During the second-week period, January 8th - 14th (7 days), the selected cleaning
medium was used 3 times.
Total usage for this 14-day period is 12.
- During the third-week period, January 15th - 21st (7 days), the selected cleaning
medium was used 7 times.
- During the fourth-week period, January 22nd - 28th (7 days), the
selected cleaning medium was used 3 times.
Total usage for this 14-day period is 10.
- During the fifth-week period, January 29th - January 30th (2 days), the
selected cleaning medium was used 2 times.
Total usage for this period is 2. (Though this is not a completed 14-day
period, it will still be counted as a 14-day interval for the purposes of
calculating usage average.)
With this, we can determine, that within the 30 days, the selected cleaning
medium has
been used a total of 24 times. To calculate the average, we divide the total
usage for the selected time range by the number of 14-day intervals, in this
case, 3. The average usage for this cleaning medium is 8.
NOTES
Usage average calculations include expired media, but do not include
deleted media.
