My Fast Client Became Slower After Multiplexing
In this example, the disk speed of the clients are a fast element on the
network. Fast clients are not recommended as candidates for multiplexing,
as shown in the following calculation:
Before multiplexing:
- Disk read speed of Client 1 = 30 MB/Sec
- Disk read speed of Client 2 = 30 MB/Sec
- Total time for Client 1 and Client 2 to protect 10 GB of
data = 342 seconds or 6 minutes (per client) x 2 = 684 seconds or 12
minutes
After multiplexing:
- Disk read speed of Client 1 = 30 MB/Sec
- Disk read speed of Client 2 = 30 MB/Sec
- Speed of tape drive = 40 MB/Sec
Therefore, the disk speed of Client 1 and Client 2 cannot
exceed 40 MB/Sec, reducing the disk speed of each client to 20 MB/Sec.
