Set the Priority Precedence of a Client or Agent

Before You Begin

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

To set the priority precedence of a client or agent:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe, click Control Panel, and then click Job Management.
  2. Click the Job Priorities tab.
  3. Select either Client or Agent Type from the Priority Precedence list.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

Set the Priority of an Agent

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

To set the priority of an agent:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe icon, click Control Panel, and then click Job Management.
  2. Click the General tab of the Job Management dialog box.
  3. From the Job Priorities pane, click the Agent whose priority you want to modify, and enter a new value in the Priority column. Remember that the lower the value, the higher the priority.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

Set the Priority of a Client

To set the priority of a client:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the client computer icon, and then select Properties from the short-cut menu.
  2. From the Job Configuration tab of the Client Computer Properties dialog box, click in the Job Priority (0-9) field and enter a new client priority value. Remember that the lower the value, the higher the priority.
  3. Click OK to save your changes.

View the Priorities of All Jobs

To view all job priorities for each job in the Job Controller window:

  1. From the CommCell Console, click the Job Controller icon.
  2. Click the Table Menu located in the extreme right (double arrows) on the Job Controller and select Choose Columns and select Priority.

The Priority column in the Job Controller is displayed, which indicate the job priority number for all jobs listed.


View the Priority of a Specific Job

Before You Begin

To view the priority of a job:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, click the Job Controller icon.
  2. Right-click an active job that you want to view, and then click Detail from the short-cut menu.
  3. You can view a data protection job's overall priority in the Priority field in the General tab of a Job Details dialog box.

Change the Job Priority of an Active Job

To change the job priority of an active job:

  1. From the Job Controller of the CommCell Console, right-click the job whose priority you want to change, then select Change Priority from the shortcut menu.
  2. From the Change Job Priority dialog box, enter or select a new priority (from 0 to 999).
  3. Click OK to save your changes.

Change the Job Priority of Groups of Active Jobs

Before You Begin

To change the job priority of groups of active jobs:

  1. From the Job Controller of the CommCell Console, right-click the job (or highlight groups of jobs) whose priority you want to change, then select Change Priority from the shortcut menu.
  2. From the Change Job Priority dialog box, enter or select a new priority (from 0 to 999).
  3. If you are changing the priority of:

Change the Job Priority of an Immediate Job

Before You Begin

To change the job priority of an immediate job:

  1. From the dialog box of the appropriate data protection, data recovery, or auxiliary copy operation, click the Advanced tab (the placement of the Advanced tab may differ for each operation).
  2. In the Advanced Options dialog box select the Startup tab.
  3. On the Startup tab, select either the Default Priority Value or the Change Priority button to enter a New Priority Value from 0 (highest priority) to 999 (lowest priority).
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

Change the Job Priority of a Scheduled Job

Before You Begin

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

To change the job priority of scheduled job:

  1. From the Schedule Jobs dialog box select the appropriate schedule job.
  2. Edit the scheduled job and navigate to the Advanced tab (the placement of the Advanced tab may differ or may not apply for each operation).
  3. In the Advanced Options dialog box select the Startup tab.
  4. On the Startup tab, select either the Default Priority Value or the Change Priority button to enter a New Priority Value from 0 (highest priority) to 999 (lowest priority).
  5. Click OK to save your changes.
