Enable VSS Backups of a Subclient

Use this procedure to enable VSS backups on a subclient of a Windows iDataAgent that supports VSS or on a subclient of an Image Level iDataAgent.

Before you Begin:

• It is recommend to enable VSS on the default subclient of a Windows iDataAgent when the data from other iDataAgents (For example: Excahnge iDataAgent or SQL iDataAgent) is filtered from the default subclient. For more information, refer to Best Practices - Windows File System iDataAgent.

To enable VSS on a subclient:

1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the subclient for which you want to enable VSS, and then click Properties.
2. From the General tab of the Subclient Properties dialog box, click the Use VSS checkbox to back up data files using VSS.

   If the subclient includes system state, and you want to back up system state and data files, click Use VSS for System State.

   In case of Windows 2008 Use VSS for System State option is not visible. It is always on and cannot be edited.

3. Click OK to save your changes.
