Quick Start

The following diagram illustrates the sequence of operations for getting started with this Agent.


Where to go From Here

  1. Get familiar with CommCell Console. The CommCell Console is the graphical user interface that allows you to control and manage a CommCell. See CommCell Console for more information.
  2. Activate the license. If the Agent was installed using an evaluation license, make sure to activate the license. See Update Licenses for step-by-step instructions.
  3. Fine-tune this Agent using the following key features:

    Operations

    Backup

    This Agent supports several backup types and options.

    Restore

    This Agent supports several restore options.

    Configuration

    Agent

    Once this Agent is installed, it is displayed in the CommCell Browser as a level under the client computer in which it is installed. Several configurable options are available at this level.

    Partitions/Instances

    An instance is a logical grouping of one or more databases or partitions that need to be backed up. An instance is displayed below the Agent in the Commcell Browser. Several configurable options are available for an instance.

    Subclients

    A subclient is a portion of a client, and it can either contain all of the client's data or a designated subset thereof. Several configurable options are available at this level.

    Administration

    Data Aging

    Data Aging is the removal of data from media and is based on the retention rules for aging data. By default, the retention rules are set to infinite. You can define retention rules based on the storage requirements of your organization.

    Auxiliary Copy

    Auxiliary copy allows you to create secondary copies of data secured by this Agent. By default data is stored in the primary copy. You can make copies of the data based on the storage requirements of your organization.

    Plan the Disaster Recovery

    Before you use your agent, be sure to review and understand the associated full system restore (or disaster recovery) procedure. The procedure may require that you plan specific actions or consider certain items before an emergency occurs.
