Getting Started - SRM Server

Prerequisites

Quick Start

The following diagram illustrates the sequence of operations for getting started with SRM Server.

Where to go From Here

  1. Get familiar with CommCell Console. The CommCell Console is the graphical user interface that allows you to control and manage a CommCell. See CommCell Console for more information.
  2. Activate the license. If the Agent was installed using an evaluation license, make sure to activate the license. See Update Licenses for step-by-step instructions.
  3. Fine-tune this Agent using the following key features:

    SRM Agents

Install SRM Agents. SRM Agents are software modules that perform data collection operations for specific operating systems or applications. The SRM system provides a variety of agents, each designed to handle a different kind of data. See Deployment for installation procedures.

    Schedule Policy

Create Schedule Policies. Schedule policies allow you to associate a schedule or groups of schedules to any number of supported items within your CommCell. See Create an SRM Data Collection Schedule Policy and Create an SRM Reports Schedule Policy.

    Cost Analysis

Establish Cost Categories and Billable entities for cost analysis. Cost Categories define the cost to store data on a given type of storage entity. Billable Entities are named entities, often representing an organizational unit, that can be used to group application storage objects for the purposes of Cost Analysis. See Cost Analysis for more information.
