The dependability of the computer also depends on the cleanliness of the ambient air.

The main elements which pollute the air are:

• Solid particles
• Gases
• Liquids

This means that their origins are totally different and that the damage which they cause can vary according to their nature and their possible interaction. The main effects are corrosion, erosion, mould, oxidation, and so on.
