Use this dialog box to view or modify the index cache directory and index retention criteria.
Index Cache Sharing
Specifies whether the MediaAgent uses a shared index cache or a local index cache.
When selected, specifies that the MediaAgent uses a shared index cache.
Name
Specifies the name of the shared index cache. A list of shared index cache is also available. To change the shared index cache, click one from the list.
Properties
Click to view the properties associated with the selected shared index cache.
When selected, specifies that the MediaAgent uses the local index cache.
Name
Specifies the name of the index cache. A list of index cache is also available. To change the index cache, click one from the list.
Share it
Click to share the dedicated index cache within the MediaAgents in the CommCell. This must be done in the (first) MediaAgent sharing the index cache.

Specifies whether the path to the index cache folder associated with the selected index cache (Use Shared Index Cache or Use Local Index Cache) is a network share or a local drive.
Use Network ShareWhen selected, specifies that a network share must be used as the path to the selected index cache.
Use MediaAgent Local DriveWhen selected, specifies that a local drive must be used as the path to the selected index cache.
Indicates the directory in which index data resides.
You can designate a new directory for the index cache. The new directory can either be a non-existent directory (will be created by the MediaAgent software), or an empty existing directory.
When you designate another directory for index cache, the MediaAgent moves the existing cache contents and directs all new cache entries to the specified directory. However, note that the Windows MediaAgents copies the existing cache contents and hence the original directory may have to be manually deleted to free the disk space.

Do not specify or relocate a Media Agent's index cache to a directory residing on a compressed drive. |
Do not specify the root directory as the index cache directory in a Unix MediaAgent, | |
For security reasons, the necessary login and password must be provided when the Index Cache location is modified. |
Click to establish or change the designated Index Cache Directory.
User AccountIdentifies the user account used by the MediaAgent software to access the index cache folder. This account must have read/write permissions to the designated Index Cache Directory.
Change
Click to change the user account information used by the MediaAgent system to access the designated Index Cache Directory.
When selected, this MediaAgent will be available to be configured as a data path candidate in the Copy Data Path Candidates dialog box which can be accessed from the Copy Properties (Data Paths) dialog box.

Ensure that all the MediaAgents that will be
configured as data path candidates, point to the same network share
and the same folder within this network share for its index cache
location.
If you have both the Unix and Windows MediaAgents pointing to the same folder, make sure that the files and folders are accessible to both these operating systems. |
Displays the offline reason, when the status of the selected index cache is offline.
Index retention time in days
Specifies the number of days used for the purpose of removing index cache.
Whenever a backup is initiated, the MediaAgent removes all index files that have not been accessed within the specified number of days.
Minimum Free Space (MB)
Specifies the total amount of free space that must be available at all times in the index cache. If necessary, use the space to modify the amount of minimum free space.
Index cleanup percent
Specifies the disk percentage used to remove the index cache.
Whenever a backup is initiated, the MediaAgent checks for the available disk space in the disk housing the index cache. If the amount of used disk space exceeds the specified percentage, the MediaAgent removes index files in the index cache on a least recently used basis until the disk space is equal to the specified percentage. However, keep in mind that the index retention time will not be taken into consideration during this process.
Free Space Warning (MB)
Specifies the amount of free space in the index cache at which a warning must be generated. If the amount of free space falls below the specified amount, the MediaAgent generates an event message and generates the MediaAgents (Disk Space Low) alert, if configured.

The above parameters are not applicable for NetWare MediaAgents. Ensure that you have sufficient disk space on the NetWare volume that hosts the index cache before performing data protection operations. |
