libraries, etc.) when you uninstall the MediaAgent
software. |
- Re-establish the hardware configuration if it is damaged.
- Reinstall the operating system with all the necessary service packs, using
the same drive and folders in which they were previously installed. Make sure
that the necessary drivers for the libraries and drives are installed and that
devices are seen by the Operating System. See
Driver Configurations
for information on verifying the driver configurations.
- Install the MediaAgent software. (For more information on installing the MediaAgent
software, see MediaAgent
Deployment and follow the appropriate procedure.)
- If this MediaAgent is used as a resource in an alternate data path,
configure the index cache directory to access the same network share and the
same folder within this network share used by the other MediaAgents in the
CommCell used as a resource in alternate data paths in a storage policy. You can set the index
cache location in the CommCell Console, from the
Index Cache tab of MediaAgent
Properties.

The following section describes the steps involved in restoring a MediaAgent
to a different computer. This method does not require an additional license for
the new MediaAgent.
Before you Begin
- Make sure that the Operating system of the new MediaAgent is the same as
the old MediaAgent.
|
It is recommended that you do not use this method if you also have one or
more Agent software installed on the old MediaAgent computer. This is because
the following method will rename the computer name in the CommServe database.
Hence you will not be able to perform a cross-machine restores to bring back the
data secured by the Agent(s).
|
To
restore the MediaAgent to a Different Computer:
- Change the name of the old MediaAgent in the CommServe database using the
CommCell Console. See
Change the Name of Client/MediaAgent Computers
for more information.
- Detach the library from the old MediaAgent and attach it to the New
MediaAgent. Make sure that the necessary drivers for the libraries and drives
are installed and that devices are seen by the Operating System. See Driver Configurations
for
more information on verifying the driver configurations.
- Install the MediaAgent on the computer containing the new name. (For more
information on installing the MediaAgent software, see
MediaAgent Deployment and
follow the appropriate procedure.)
- Install the latest Service Pack.
-
After the MediaAgent installation, open the CommCell Console and then open the
Library and Drive Configuration window. The status for the libraries and
drives connected to this MediaAgent computer will be displayed as
configured and
detected. Right-click each library and click
Configure.
If you have a magnetic library, make sure that the mount path is pointing to
the appropriate location. If necessary move the mount path to the appropriate
location and then change the location of the mount path as described in
Move a Mount Path.
- If this MediaAgent is used as a resource in an alternate data path,
configure the index cache directory to access the same network share and the
same folder within this network share used by the other MediaAgents in the
CommCell used as alternate data paths. You can set the index
cache location in the CommCell Console, from the
Index Cache tab of MediaAgent
Properties.
- If you have a magnetic library, make sure that the mount path is
pointing to the appropriate location. If necessary move the mount path to
the appropriate location and then change the location of the mount path as
described in
Move a Mount Path.
This completes the procedures for restoring the MediaAgent to a different
computer.
The following section describes the steps involved in restoring a MediaAgent
to a different computer. This method requires an additional license for the
MediaAgent.
The following flowchart provides a broad overview of restoring a MediaAgent
to a computer with a different name.
Before you Begin
- Make sure that you have the necessary software and license for the
new MediaAgent and Library
- Mark the media as exported in all the libraries attached to the MediaAgent
To
restore the MediaAgent to a Different Computer:
- Establish the necessary hardware for the MediaAgent. Make sure that you
have a library with compatible drives, or connect the library attached to the
old MediaAgent.
- Install the operating system and the necessary device drivers.
- Install the MediaAgent software. (For more information on installing the MediaAgent
software, see MediaAgent
Deployment and follow the appropriate procedure.)
- Install the latest Service Pack.
- If this MediaAgent is used as a resource as an alternate data path,
configure the index cache directory to access the same network share and the
same folder within this network share used by the other MediaAgents in the
CommCell used as a resource as an alternate data path. You can set the index
cache location in the CommCell Console, from the
Index Cache tab of MediaAgent
Properties.
- After the MediaAgent installation, open the CommCell Console
and then open the Library and Drive Configuration window. Configure the
libraries and drives.
|
If you are using the same library that was
configured in the old MediaAgent, a pop-up message will be displayed
asking you whether this library is the same library that was configured in
the old MediaAgent. Click No to continue. |
- If this is a new library, transfer the media from the old library to the
new library.
- If the barcodes are read differently in the new library,
update the media barcodes
to use the media in the library.
- If you have a magnetic library, make sure that the mount path is
pointing to the appropriate location. If necessary move the mount path to
the appropriate location and then change the location of the mount path as
described in
Move a Mount Path.
- In the CommCell Console, perform Change Data Path operation from
the storage policy copies in the old MediaAgent to the new MediaAgent with
appropriate library and drive pool. This will logically transfer the media from
the old library to the new library. ( See
Change Data Path
for more information.)
- Perform a Full Scan operation in the library. (For more information, see
Perform a
Full Scan.)
This completes the procedures for restoring the MediaAgent to a different
computer.
