Overview

In some previous releases, there was a NAS iDataAgent software component, which was installed on a MediaAgent. In this release of the software, there is no separate NAS iDataAgent software component.

When the CommServe is upgraded to the current release, all of the NAS client information from the previous release (which is all stored in the CommServe database) is upgraded to the current release. When the CommServe upgrade is complete, all NAS clients in the CommCell should be seen as upgraded as well, whether or not the MediaAgent they were formerly associated with are upgraded or not. Then, during the upgrade of the MediaAgent that contained the NAS iDataAgent software component, this separate NAS iDataAgent software component is removed. All of the software required to run NAS jobs on the MediaAgent is included in the MediaAgent software component itself, without the need for a separate NAS iDataAgent software component.

NOTES

• A deconfigured NAS client residing in a CommCell that is upgraded cannot be reconfigured. However, data recovery operations from this client can still be performed.

Every MediaAgent within a storage policy used by NAS subclients must be on the same version of the software, which must be a MediaAgent Version supported with this release of the CommServe software.

• If you are upgrading from a software version prior to version 7.0.0:
  • Contact Customer Support before upgrading a configured library that connects to devices using the NDMP protocol. These are NDMP hosts that are not NAS file servers.
  • NAS file servers that were added to the NDMP host list (i.e., has an entry in the NDMP Host Information table) but are not configured as NAS clients will either:
    1. automatically be removed from the CommCell during upgrade, if no libraries or drives are configured using theses NDMP hosts

       OR

    2. cause the upgrade to fail, if a library or drive is configured on one of these NDMP hosts. If the upgrade fails for this reason, add that NDMP host as a NAS client and then re-run the upgrade.

Upgrade the NDMP Remote Server (NRS)

The File System NDMP Remote Server (NRS) software is installed on a MediaAgent computer and hence automatically upgraded when a MediaAgent upgrade is performed.
