Library Summary

Use this window to display a summary of the library.

General

This section displays the following information:

• The status of the library and, if not operational, the failure reason and since when it has not been operational
• The manufacturer and library type
• Status of the scratch pool(s) associated with the library (not applicable for stand-alone drives)

If one or more scratch pools are below watermark, you can get a list of these scratch pools by clicking the Below Watermark hyperlink, which displays the ScratchPool Details list. (not applicable for stand-alone drives)

You can also get a list of drives that are not operational by clicking the <n> Not Operational hyperlink, which displays the Drive Status list. This hyperlink will be displayed when one or more drives in the library are not operational.

Media

This section provides important information about media within a library. This includes the following:

• Total number of media that are full, (including appendable) active, spare media inside the library, spare media outside the library, expired media inside the library and expired media outside the library.
• Total number of media used and recycled in the library in the previous week.
• Total amount of data written to the library in the previous week.
• Total capacity available in the library.

  NOTES

  Capacity available is an approximate value and is calculated as follows:

  • Tape or Optical Libraries: Total free space on all active, appendable, and spare media that is not exported. (Note that appendable media capacity is included in this report even if the Use Appendable media option is not selected in the CommCell)

    If you have drive types with different recording formats in the library, the system uses the lower capacity to calculate the total capacity.

  • Stand-Alone Drives: Total free space on active or appendable media that is currently in the drive

Library Utilization

This section provides the trend for the amount of data written and read in the library over a period of time, using the Activity Qualifier Window, which is based on the settings in the Cell Configuration (Data Protection Window). This data can be viewed using daily, weekly, or monthly frequency based on the selected frequency period.

This section will help you to determine if there is a sudden growth or fall in the amount of data being written to the library for the selected frequency period.

Media Consumption

This section provides the trend for the number of media that are being consumed and recycled within the library over a period of time, using the Activity Qualifier Window, which is based on the settings in the Cell Configuration (Data Protection Window). This data can be viewed using daily, weekly, or monthly frequency based on the selected frequency period.

This section will help you to predict the total media requirements for the library for a specific time frame.
