Data Protection Coverage Report

This report displays whether or not a subclient or DataClassSet has consistent data protection coverage, within a specified time range, using the Coverage Qualifier Window specified in the Cell Configuration (Data Protection Window). Note that you can exclude those subclients created in command line for DB2, Informix, Oracle, Oracle RAC and SAP agents, if necessary. Note that in this report, data protection jobs also include Data Replication operations.

Subclient/DataClassSet Status Chart

Primarily, this chart provides a high-level, quick overview of coverage, that allows you to identify large problems at a glance. Coverage means at least one data protection operation of some kind completed. You can easily look for consistency of coverage, identify overall trends, and potential problem areas. It does not differentiate which type of operation, or any other details about it. To be included, an operation had to start inside the coverage window. For the entire CommCell, you can see the overall number of subclients/DataClassSets with completed data protection activities, failed or killed activities, and no activity, for the specified range of days. Jobs that failed to start, failed, killed or pruned from all copies will not appear if there was another completed job for the subclient/DataClassSet within the specified time range. Also, if all jobs for a subclient/DataClassSet on a coverage day are pruned from all copies, it will be shown as pink (no activity) for that day.

Click a bar (except one that indicates no activity) to see a Data Protection Detail Report with a listing of individual data protection operations. In the Data Protection Detail Report, you can double-click any entry to access the Job Detail screen, which provides more space for Failure Reason, Attempt and Copy information to be displayed.

When you click on a bar that indicates no activity, you will see the Data Protection SubClient/DataClassSet Detail Report, which contains the data protection details of the subclient/DataClassSet, including the date and time of latest full data protection operation, its size and type. Note that since there is no activity associated with this subclient/DataClassSet, you will not have access to the Job Detail screen.

Subclient/DataClassSet Status Table

Compared to the chart, this table shows you considerably more detail from the same data. For each selected CommCell, its clients, applications, databases, instances, backup sets, subclients, and DataClassSets, you can see whether or not there is data protection coverage on each specified day. If there was no coverage, the table shows whether this was due to no activity or to job failures. Note that the data contained within the table can be displayed in image or text format; viewing this table in text format is useful when colors cannot be identified, e.g., viewing a black and white printout of the report.

The grid is color-coded to indicate coverage for that day, showing the cumulative status for all subclients/DataClassSets within each client or application type, on a given day. A client or application type can have a grid that is two different colors, indicating some subclients/DataClassSets with coverage and some without.

The Subclient/DataClassSet Status Table considers the point in time a subclient/DataClassSet was created when determining data coverage. For example, if it is created in 2005, but the Data Protection Coverage Report is generated with a frequency spanning 2000 through 2005, the columns representing the period of time prior to the creation of the subclient/DataClassSet will be shown as gray, indicating no coverage.

Click a grid (except one which indicates no activity) to see a Data Protection Detail Report with a listing of individual data protection operations for that subclient/DataClassSets on that day. This report is essentially the same as the one you can see when you click a bar in the chart. In the Data Protection Detail Report, you can double-click any entry to access the Job Detail screen, which provides more space for Failure Reason, Attempt and Copy information to be displayed.
