Overview - SRM SharePoint Agent

Introduction

The SRM SharePoint Agent gathers statistics on the allocation and usage of storage by Windows SharePoint Services or SharePoint Server.

Data collected by the SRM SharePoint Agent  is summarized by many types of reports that may be further customized with user-selected filters and charts in the Report Manager.

Supported Job Types for Data Collection

This agent supports two job types for data collection:

Discovery Job

This job collects basic information about SharePoint Topology, Administrative (Configuration and SSO) and Content Databases, Virtual Servers, Site Collections (including their sizes) and configurations or properties. The Probe operation does not gather detailed information about Subsites and documents. Data collections using the Discovery level job require minimal processing on the SharePoint Server and may be run throughout the day. If you select a Discovery level Data Collection Job, you will not receive meaningful data in certain of the more extensive reports.

Discovery and Analysis Job

This job collects all information and statistics on the size, properties, and usage of Virtual Servers, Site Collections, Subsites, and documents. Data collections using the Analysis level job should be run during off-peak hours because they require processing that is CPU- and disk-intensive on the SharePoint Server.

See Reports - SRM SharePoint Agent to see which reports require Analysis level data collection.

Tree Level in SRM SharePoint Agent

When the SRM SharePoint Agent is installed, the following levels are automatically created in the CommCell Browser.

petercs: Client

SharePoint: Agent

default: Subclients

Virtual Servers: This level displays virtual servers for the SRM SharePoint Agent’s client computer. Web applications associated with the client computer are populated under this level after completion of the first Data Collection operation. For more information, see SRM SharePoint Agent Summaries.

Configuration Considerations

Consider the following configuration requirements prior to using the SRM SharePoint Agent:

License Requirement

To perform a data collection operation using this Agent, you need a SRM SharePoint Agent license, available in the SRM server. One license is consumed when you install the Agent. See License Administration for more details on license requirements.
