  2. MediaAgent computers
  3. Client computers

Available Updates in this Service Pack

For a list of updates introduced in this Service Pack, select the link below for your operating system. The Critical Updates in this Service Pack are identified and marked in red.

Critical Updates Required

After installing Service Pack 10, the following critical updates must be installed:

Not available for upgrades

CommServe upgrades from Version 8 to Version 9 are no longer supported. You must directly upgrade to Version 10.

Prevent User Prompt to Install Updates After Service Pack Install on CommServe

After installing the Service Pack on the CommServe, if the CommServe Cache does not contain the Service Pack and Updates, the user will be prompted to install Updates that already exist or obsoleted by recently added Updates whenever the CommCell Console is launched. To prevent this prompt, make sure the latest Service Pack and Updates are copied to the CommServe Cache.

Service Pack Installs on Unix Clients using CopyToCache

Do not use the CopyToCache utility to copy tar files directly to the CommServe Cache for Unix clients.

To resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. Download the Service Pack and Updates from the Maintenance Advantage site to your local computer.
  2. Manually extract/untar the Service Pack and Updates using a compression utility, such as WinRAR.
  3. Use the Copytocache utility to import the extracted Service Pack and Updates to the CommServe Cache.

Managed Disk Space

The newly created deduplicated storage policy copies will no longer have the Enable Managed Disk Space for disk data option enabled. With Service Pack 8B installed on the CommServe, if an existing Deduplication copy has this option enabled and if you update and save the copy properties, you will be informed of the recommended setting to manually disable this option for faster pruning of the aged data in order to reclaim space on the disk. There will not be any change to this option automatically for any existing copy.

Full Backup Scheduled For OnePass Agent Will Automatically Trigger a Synthetic Full Backup

You may notice a Synthetic Full job running for OnePass clients even when it is not scheduled.

This is because when a scheduled Full backup is run, it automatically triggers an Incremental backup followed by a Synthetic Full backup.

Service Pack Install on Oracle Windows clients Require a Reboot

For Oracle iDataAgent installations on Microsoft Windows, after installing the service pack, the Calypso Services will remain offline and cannot be restarted until you reboot the client computer. Hence, all backup jobs will require a reboot after the service pack install.

NAS NDMP and Deduplication Database (DDB) Backups

When installing the service pack, if there are any running NAS NDMP or DDB backup jobs, kill the running job and start a new backup job.

IIS Web Services will Restart After Installing the Updates

After Installing the updates for OWA Proxy Enabler or the Content Indexing Web Search Server, the IIS web services will restart for the update to take its effect. The system will not display a prompt prior to restarting the services. Therefore after installing the updates, it is recommended to verify the following:

Content Indexing and Search

It is not recommended to uninstall updates on the Content Indexing Server. If you have to uninstall any service pack from the Content Indexing Server, you need to stop the FAST ESP service before uninstalling the service pack. Otherwise the uninstall will fail. At that point, you may stop the service and then resume the uninstallation.

Use the following steps to stop the FAST ESP service:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  2. From the Services window, right-click FASTESP service and click Stop.

Deprecated Products and Platforms

Prior to installing this service pack, review Extended Support and Deprecated Products and Platforms for comprehensive information on products and platforms that have been deprecated or placed on Extended Support in this release.
