U4 - ESCALA Update of AIX 5.1 to 5.1.0.61 (ML 5100-07)

Release 14.1 (17/07/2006)

Preliminary Remarks

ATTENTION
si vous avez besoin d'une procédure de migration pour le stockage (voir ci-après) telle que MS1 : Migration Guide for Storage Environment of a system running BULL drivers and Atf Failover Software ou MS4 : Migration guide from an Aix5.1/Aix5.2 + PowerPath environment , seuls des membres du personnel BULL pourront y accéder.

This document describes the procedure to follow when updating  an already existing AIX 5.1 system. The Latest Technical Level is currently 5.1.0.61 (according to the bos.mp fileset Level number).

It is mandatory, in that case, to update the Bullenh product  too.

  • The OSI products are now delivered on several separate CD-ROMs (see U4.1).
  • You can migrate your storage environment from Bull to IBM drivers and from Atf to Powerpath
  • If you are updating  E230/E250, T430/T450 or EPC430/450 models, downloading
PTF Z004314 is mandatory. See section U4.10 for installation.
  • If your system includes Fibre Channel DAS such as DAS 5300, DAS 4500, DAS 4700, CX 200/400/600 and (or) EMC Symmetrix Sub-systems, read carefully the following because if need be to migrate the storage, it is very important to follow each instruction given in this documentation.

WARNING
if you need a Storage Migration procedure (see hereafter) such as MS1 : Migration Guide for Storage Environment of a system running BULL drivers and Atf Failover Software or MS4 : Migration guide from an Aix5.1/Aix5.2 + PowerPath environment , only BULL employees will be able to acceed it.

      • For all that concerns the Navisphere 5 product, it is strongly recommended to read :
        • Configuring and Managing a DAS and using ATF : 86 A2 20PN 13
      • For all that concerns the Navisphere 6.5 product, it is strongly recommended to read the AIX SRB PART 3, "Navisphere 6.5"
      • the devices.pci.48110040 package present on the Bull Enhancement CD-ROM is dedicated to  PCI FDDI adapters with the label B5-3, B5-4 or B5-5. Consequently, if you have PCI FDDI adapters without such a label, you have first to de-install the devices.pci.48110040 package , then to re-install it from the FDDI media delivered with the adapter (see AIX SRB , PART 1, "Install Bull Enhancement Packages")).

    U4.12 - Reboot the system

      • WARNING : if your system runs on a cluster node, the PM daemon must not be started. To perform that, insert ":" at the begining ot the following line in /etc/inittab :
          • pmd:2:wait:/usr/bin/pmd > /dev/console 2>&1 # Start PM daemon
      • if you use NIS, it is strongly recommended to remove the bos.net.nisplus fileset
      • If you do not have to perform any DAS installation, reboot the system now, running :
          • shutdown -Fr
      • If you migrate from the BULL Fibre Channel driver to the IBM Fibre Channel driver, run shutdown -F and go to section : " The Fibre Channel adapter jumpers settings modification" of the MS1 Guide

U4.13- Perform  DAS with Atf installation (BULL Fibre Channel driver)

This section has to be followed if your system is still running with the BULL Fibre Channel drivers.

    • only in case of DAS :
      • since some important problems have been described in TSBs, please have a look at the suggested URL in the following cases :
      • the DiskArray and fcDiskArray.com packages have been re-installed with the Bull Enhancement CD, verify  the flare Firmware release of your DAS, and re-install it if it has changed (Refer to AIX  SRB - PART 3 - DAS Subsystems).

      • Note :
After the DAS flare upgrading to :
          • 5.11.14 for DAS 5700 , 5.11.64 for 5720
          • 5.24.05 for DAS 5300
          • 5.32.13 for DAS 4500
the disks LEDS blink continuously. Do not worry, this is a normal behaviour and will remain forever.
      • if you have ordered it, now install the Atf package from the Atf CD-ROM (see the Atf SRB : 86 A2 70WF)

      • WARNING : compatibility between Atf release and other software packages as DiskArray is important. It is described in the Atf SRB and at the following URL :  http://epicentre.frec.bull.fr:80/internal/topics/storage/das/atfmatrix.html (for BULL employees only)
      • do not reboot the system at this moment
    • if you have upgraded a Cluster Node :
      • as other Nodes have taken the upgraded Node resources during the Upgrading process, Volume Groups will be varied on on these Nodes.

      • So to be able to recover the Volume Groups  on the upgraded Node:
        • on "split_bus" configurations (one SCSI bus by Node to a shared DAS), you have to stop HACMP on the other Node ( smit clstop ) and then run :
          • /usr/lpp/DiskArray/das_available  hdisk<x>
hdisk<x> is the hdisk where the Volume Group has to be re-imported
        • on other configurations (DAS with Atf, EMC...), it is mandatory to break the disk reservation running the following command on the other Nodes (where the VGs are varied on):
          • varyonvg -b -u <VGname>
      • run then, on the upgraded Node, for each hdisk :
    rmdev -dl hdisk<x>
      • reboot the system
      • verify that all the Volume Group have been recovered
      • you can now restart HACMP running the smit clstart command and verify that the upgraded Node recovers its resources
    • otherwise :
      • reboot the system
      • run the varyonvg command for each Volume Group
      • mount the filesystems

U4.14 - Perform DAS with PowerPath installation (IBM Fibre Channel driver)

    • If you migrate from the BULL Fibre Channel driver to the IBM Fibre Channel driver, go to section : "To be followed after modifying the Fibre Channel adapter jumpers" of the MS1 Guide
    • If you are using the MS4  Guide to migrate your storage environment, go now to section : "New components installation"
