Configurable Properties

Configurable Properties

Once installed, the agent is configured and is therefore able to manage the data on the client computer. However, you can change certain aspects of the configuration (e.g., client computer, backup sets, etc.) to manage the data in the manner that best suits your needs. Depending on the agent, you can view or change the agent configuration from the tabs that are available for that agent in the Properties dialog box.

Activity Control

You can enable or disable all operations for this CommCell object and all objects below it. For more information, see Activity Control.

Assigning a Filter Storage Policy for Erase Data by Browsing

A filter storage policy must be assigned to the agent in order to conduct Erase Data by Browsing operations for File System, Exchange Mailbox, Exchange Public/Web Folder, and SharePoint Server iDataAgents, as well as Exchange Mailbox/Public Folder Archiver and SharePoint Archiver Agents. The purpose of the filter storage policy is to tell the system which media will be used to store the index filter information and how long to retain it. If one is not assigned at the time an Erase Data by Browsing job is run, the system will display a message reminding you that no filter storage policy has been defined. For step-by-step instructions, see Assign a Filter Storage Policy for Erase Data by Browsing.

Configuring Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) Backup Options

The Exchange 2007 Database iDataAgent can be configured to support Microsoft's Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) feature which allows VSS-enabled backups to be taken of the replica database on the passive node. Performing backups from a replica database offers a high availability solution by minimizing disruption to the production environment. Optionally, you can configure CCR backups to be taken of the database on the active node in the event of failover, or to perform a CCR seeding operation of data from the active node to the passive node. For more information, see Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) Backups.

For step-by-step instructions, see Configure CCR Backup Options.

CSVDE Filtering for Discovery Operations

A CSVDE filtering option is provided for administrators familiar with LDAP queries to increase performance for manual and auto-discovery operations in cases where the discovery process takes a long time to complete. Filtering objects in this way can reduce the number of objects returned from the query thereby speeding up the process of discovering new mailboxes for data protection. This feature is supported by Exchange Compliance Archiver, Exchange Mailbox Archiver and the Exchange Mailbox iDataAgent. A CSVDE filtering example is provided below, which will filter out system mailboxes residing on the SERVERNAME server from discovery operations for these agents:

"(&(msExchHomeServerName=*/cn=SERVERNAME)(!(CN=SystemMailbox{*)))"

CAUTION: Use of this option requires expert-level knowledge of CSVDE, which is a Microsoft tool used for extracting and filtering information from Active Directory. Incorrect use of the CSVDE filtering option can result in failed discovery and data protection operations for these agents. For more information on CSVDE, refer to documentation from Microsoft Corporation.

For step-by-step instructions, see Enable CSVDE Filtering for Discovery Operations.

Modifying the Profile Name

You can modify the name of the profile that is associated with the appropriate administrator mailbox for the following agents: Exchange Compliance Archiver, Exchange Mailbox Archiver, Exchange Public Folder Archiver, Exchange Mailbox iDataAgent, and Exchange Public Folder iDataAgent.

For step-by-step instructions, see Modify Profile Name.

Modifying the Mailbox Name

You can modify the name of the mailbox that is associated with the appropriate administrator profile for the following agents:  Exchange Compliance Archiver, Exchange Mailbox Archiver, Exchange Public Folder Archiver, Exchange Mailbox iDataAgent, and Exchange Public Folder iDataAgent.

For step-by-step instructions, see Modify Mailbox Name.

Modifying the Exchange Server Name

For all Exchange-based agents, you can modify the name of the Exchange server that is installed on the client computer without having to manually edit the registry. This feature is useful in situations where the Exchange Server Name has changed since iDataAgent installation or where multiple NIC cards are being used on the same client.

For step-by-step instructions, see Modify Exchange Server Name.

Enabling VSS Shadow Copy for Exchange 2003/2007 Database Backups

You can enable Microsoft's Exchange Writer to use a VSS shadow copy to perform backups for Exchange 2003/2007 Database. See VSS for Exchange Database iDataAgents for an overview.

Enabling Exchange Mailbox Backups for the Deleted Item Retention Folder

You can enable the identified backups for the Deleted Item Retention folder. See Enable Exchange Mailbox Backups for the Deleted Item Retention Folder for step-by-step instructions.

Enabling Exchange Public Folder Backups for the Deleted Item Retention Folder

You can enable the identified backups for the Deleted Item Retention folder. See Enable Exchange Public Folder Backups for the Deleted Item Retention Folder for step-by-step instructions.

Specifying/Removing a Domain Name for Exchange Servers With Non-Resident Items

For Exchange Compliance Archiver, Exchange Mailbox Archiver, and Exchange Mailbox iDataAgent, you can specify or remove the domain name of one or more Exchange Servers containing mailboxes and accounts that reside in a non-default domain or in multiple domains.

For step-by-step instructions, see Specify/Remove a Domain Name for an Exchange Server With Non-Resident Items.

Configuring Pre-selected Non-Full Backup Types for Exchange Database

For the Exchange Database Agent, you can specify the incremental and differential (i.e., non-full) backup types from the agent level in the CommCell Browser. See Configure Non-Full Backup Types for Exchange Database for step-by-step instructions.

User Accounts

Agent user accounts are used to perform data protection and recovery operations for the agent.

See the Exchange Agents section in User Accounts and Passwords for more information.

The following pertains to Exchange Database:

One or more of the agents of this type use one or more accounts that are configured from a non-Properties dialog box. See the appropriate section for your agent(s) in User Accounts and Passwords for more information.

User Security

You can perform the following functions:

For more information, see User Administration and Security.

Version

The Version tab displays the software version and post-release service packs and updates installed for the component. See Version for an overview.
