Assign Mailboxes to Another Subclient

All unconfigured mailboxes are assigned to the default subclient during the backup/migration archiving/content indexing operation (if no other subclients are present or new items are present). You can however, reassign any item to any other subclient within the same backup set, archive set, content index set. Once assigned it becomes part of the content of that subclient.

Before You Begin

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

To assign items to another subclient:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, archive set, or content index set containing the subclients for which you want to assign mailboxes, select All Tasks and then click Configure. Alternatively, you can perform this using the Subclient Properties (Content) tab.
  2. From the Add/Modify Mailbox in Backup Set (Exchange Mailbox) or the Re-distribute mailboxes among subclients (Exchange Mailbox Archiver) dialog box, click the Subclient field of each item that you want to assign and select the desired subclient from the list. Alternatively, you can select and assign a range of items using the Assign all selected items to list.

    Regardless of the assignment method, your choices always include:

    If you choose the Do Not Backup/Do Not Archive/Do Not Content Index subclient, the item will not be backed up/archived/content indexed.

  3. To save the configuration, click OK.

Discover and Assign New Mailboxes

Before You Begin

To manually discover and assign new mailboxes:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, archive set, content index set of the subclients that you want to assign mailboxes, select All Tasks and then click Configure. Alternatively, you can use the Subclient Properties (Content) tab to access its Configure button.
  2. From the Add/Modify Mailbox in Backup Set or the Re-distribute mailboxes among subclients dialog box, depending on your agent, click the Discover button.
  3. The system displays a confirmation message, informing you that the discovery process can take an unspecified amount of time. Larger Exchange Servers may require several minutes for this operation to complete. Click No if you need to cancel the discovery process, or click Yes to continue. If you continue the discovery process, a progress bar shows the completion status of the operation.
  4. When the discovery process completes, the Add/Modify Mailbox in Backup Set or the Re-distribute mailboxes among subclients  dialog box is redisplayed. The window displays the mailboxes that have already been assigned; plus any newly discovered mailboxes that have not been assigned. The unassigned mailboxes are those that have no entry in the Subclient column.
  5. To assign these mailboxes, click the Subclient field of each mailbox that you want to assign and select the desired subclient from the list. Alternatively, you can select and assign a range of mailboxes to a single subclient using the Change all selected mailboxes to list.

    Regardless of the assignment method, your choices always include:

    If you choose the Do Not Backup/Do Not Archive/Do Not Content Index subclient, the mailbox will not be backed up/archived/content indexed.

  6. To register your mailbox assignments with the system, click Apply.
  7. If you have no other mailboxes to assign, click OK.

Configure Mailboxes for Auto-Discovery

Before You Begin

Select the desired procedure:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set or All Subclients migration set containing the mailboxes that you want to configure for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then select Enable Auto-Discover and select Match mailboxes by regular expressions. Click OK to save the changes.
  3. If you would like to enable auto-discovery on the default subclient, then continue on with this step, otherwise skip to Step 5. Right-click the default subclient of the backup set, content index set or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  4. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then select Automatically add new mailboxes that don't qualify for membership in any of the sub-clients and click OK to save the change.
  5. Right-click a user-defined subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  6. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then enter a wildcard pattern in the Mailbox Display Names field to specify that newly discovered mailbox display names matching that pattern during auto-discovery will be assigned to this subclient. Click Add. Repeat this step to enter additional wildcard patterns. See Wildcards for a list of supported wildcards.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.
  8. If there are other user-defined subclients contained within this backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, repeat steps 5 through 7 for each of the other user-defined subclients, specifying a unique set of wildcard patterns for each subclient.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any newly discovered mailboxes will be assigned to the content of the respective subclient whose name patterns match the specified name pattern of the new mailboxes. Any newly discovered mailboxes that do not match any of the name patterns will be assigned to the default subclient.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set containing the Mailbox Stores that you want to configure for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then select Enable Auto-Discover and select Storage Group Affinity. Click OK to save the changes.
  3. If you would like to enable auto-discovery on the default subclient, then continue on with this step, otherwise skip to Step 5. Right-click the default subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  4. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then select Automatically add new mailboxes that don't qualify for membership in any of the sub-clients and click OK to save the change.
  5. Right-click a user-defined subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  6. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then click Configuration.
  7. From the Configure Mailbox Stores for Auto-discovery dialog, click the Subclient field of each Mailbox Store that you want to assign and select the desired subclient from the list. Alternatively, you can select and assign a range of Mailbox Stores to a single subclient using the Change all selected stores to list. Click OK to save the assignments.
  8. Click OK to save the changes.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any newly discovered mailboxes found within the Storage Group associated with a given subclient, will be assigned to the content of that subclient. Any newly discovered mailboxes in new Mailbox Stores that are not assigned to any subclient will be assigned to the default subclient.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set containing the subclients that you want to configure for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then select Enable Auto-Discover and select AD User Group Affinity. Click OK to save the changes.
  3. If you would like to enable auto-discovery on the default subclient, then continue on with this step, otherwise skip to Step 5. Right-click the default subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  4. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then select Automatically add new mailboxes that don't qualify for membership in any of the sub-clients and click OK to save the change.
  5. Right-click a user-defined subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  6. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then click Configuration.
  7. From the Configure AD User Group for Auto-discovery dialog perform the following tasks:
  8. Once you have assigned all the groups, click OK to save the assignments on the Configure AD User Group for Auto-discovery dialog.
  9. Click OK to save the changes on the Auto-discovery tab.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any newly discovered mailboxes found within the Active Directory User Group associated with a given subclient, will be assigned to the content of that subclient. Any newly discovered mailboxes in new Active Directory User Groups that are not assigned to any subclient will be assigned to the default subclient.

wedge.gif (136 bytes)To Disable Auto-Discovery for the Backup Set or All Subclients Migration Set:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set containing the subclients that want to disable for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then clear the checkbox for Enable Auto-Discover and this will disable auto-discovery for all subclients contained within the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set.
  3. Click OK to save the changes.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any new mailboxes will not be automatically discovered nor assigned to the content of any subclient.


Assign Journal Mailboxes to Another Subclient

To assign journal mailboxes to another subclient:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the agent containing the subclients that you want to assign mailboxes, click All Tasks, and then click Configure. Alternatively, you can perform this using the Subclient Properties (Content) tab.
  2. From the Add/Modify Journaling Mailboxes dialog box, click the Subclient field of each item that you want to assign and select the desired subclient from the list.

To discover and select target mailboxes on the Exchange Server:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the icon for the appropriate agent and then click Properties.
  2. From the Target Mailboxes tab of the agent Properties dialog box, click Configure.
  3. From the Add/Modify Mailboxes dialog box, click Discover.
  4. From the Discover New Mailbox pop-up, click Yes.
  5. Click the desired mailboxes in the Select column and then click OK.
  6. From the Target Mailboxes tab, click OK.

Add Mailbox

The journaling mailbox must be manually assigned to the designated subclient using the Databases tab in the Subclient Properties dialog box.

Before You Begin

To add mailbox:

  1. To add the journaling mailbox, click the Add Mailbox button and typing in the name of the journaling mailbox in the space provided.
  2. The subclient containing the journaling mailbox should be a dedicated subclient with no other mailboxes assigned to it.
  3. The Do Not Create Stub option in the Archive Rules | Stub Rule tab of the Subclient Properties dialog box should be selected.
Use Operate in Backfill Mode option, if you have to archive and content index mail messages that existed before journaling was enabled.

Enable CSVDE Filtering for Discovery Operations

Before You Begin

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

To enable CSVDE filtering for discovery operations:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the icon for the appropriate agent and then click Properties.
  2. From the General tab of the agent Properties dialog box, select the Use CSVDE For Discovery option, then specify the desired CSVDE filter in the corresponding entry space.
  3. Click OK.

The next time a discovery operation is run for this agent the user-specified CSVDE filter will be used.
