Once the CommCell Console software is installed on the CommServe computer, you can access the CommCell Console remotely from any computer using a Java-enabled web browser. The web-based version of the CommCell Console uses the Java Web Start application and has the same appearance and functionality as the installable CommCell Console application.
When accessing the CommCell Console remotely for the first time, Java Web Start provides you with the option of creating Desktop and Start menu icons for the CommCell Console. If you choose to create these icons, you will be able to remotely access the CommCell Console directly from the Desktop or Start menu without having to enter the CommServe name and alias in the web browser each time. You also retain the option of continuing to remotely access the CommCell Console via a web browser if desired.
If you choose not to create these shortcuts, you must launch a web browser and enter the CommServe name and alias each time you wish to remotely access the CommCell Console.
Note that the IIS Server must be configured for accessing the CommCell Console as a Remote Web-Based Application. See Web Administration for more information.

This dialog box will show all components installed on the client, including those that do not appear as separate components under the client node in the CommCell Console (such as Offline Mining components).
Certain users do not need access to all options in the CommCell, particularly administrative functions such as those in Control Panel. Therefore, you can limit the features and options that these users can access by creating the nRestrictedViewEnabled registry key at the CommCell root node.
The nRestrictedViewEnabled registry key creates the CV_Restricted_Visibility user group. When assigned to this user group, members can see only a portion of all available options in the CommCell. The following elements are excluded from the restricted view of the CommCell Console:

The CommCell® Console can be viewed in a variety of different languages. For information on supported languages, see Support Information - Languages.
By default, the CommCell Console will be displayed in the supported language currently running on your operating system. For example, if you are running the CommCell Console on a Windows computer, the CommCell Console will be displayed in the language set in the Regional and Language Options dialog box provided that language is supported by the software. Conversely, if the language running on your operating system is not supported by the software, the CommCell Console will be displayed in English.
If you wish to run the CommCell Console in a supported language that is different from the language used for your operating system (for example, you wish to run the CommCell Console in Italian while your operating system runs in English), you can configure the CommCell Console to run in the supported language by modifying the CommCell Console's Java command parameters. Note that the appropriate fonts and characters for the supported language must be available on the computer. For more information, see CommCell Console.
To run the CommCell Console as a remote web-based application in a non-English language, Active Server Pages must be enabled in the IIS Server of the computer on which the stand-alone CommCell Console is installed. |
To modify the JRE installation to the language of your operating system, use Additional languages option. See the following steps:
To modify the JRE Installation with languages:
If you want the CommCell Console to disconnect after being inactive for a certain amount of time, you can enable the Allow GUI connections to timeout option on the System dialog box. You can define the timeout in minutes for the inactive CommCell Console to disconnect.
Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To view the users that are currently logged in to the CommCell Console:
The Single Sign On (SSO) feature enables users to login to the CommServe using their user-account credentials from the Active Directory service provider, inheriting capabilities on the CommServe based on their Active Directory group membership mapping on the CommServe user groups, which must include the Browse capabilities.
If the Single Sign On feature is enabled for this Active Directory domain, the login/password entry screen is bypassed, and the user is authenticated without them having to enter any login/password information. Users can also launch the CommCell Console and select Cancel before the application initiates the login process. The username field is pre-populated if the user is connecting to the CommServe, and the Active Directory domain they are currently logged into has been configured on the CommServe. Users also have the option to overwrite this username with other Active Directory user account credentials; the username must be entered in the following format: <domain name>\<user name>. When a username is entered with a domain name, the CommServe Server automatically recognizes that the password information must be authenticated by the external domain server.
Prior to enabling Single Sign On on a Name Server, note the following:
In order to enable Single Sign On, you need to first add the external domain with the CommServe for authentication purposes. When adding the domain controller, you will provide the required information to communicate with the Active Directory service provider (such as domain name, hostname of directory server, directory service type, username and password).
Note the following when adding domain controllers:
Once you have added the domain controller, associate certain external domain user groups (domain name\user group) with a user group defined in the CommServe. This will provide the external domain users access to the CommCell entities. Note that the CommServe user group must have Browse capabilities in order for the Single Sign On feature to work properly.
Use the following steps to enable Single Sign On:
Once you have enabled Single Sign On on the Name Server , do the following:
Here the userName must match with the Name Server registration done in the Commcell GUI.
Once configured, if necessary, users can temporarily disable the Single Sign On feature or change user credentials. For more information, see Disable Single Sign On/Change the Target CommCell from a Specific Console.
Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To disable Single Sign On for a specific console:
This method disables the Single Sign On feature for this application shortcut. To re-enable the feature, simply remove the -sso=disabled command. |
To temporarily disable Single Sign On:
This method allows the user to enter alternate login information once. The next time a user launches the application using the same application shortcut; it will once again use the single sign on feature. |
To add another target CommCell for Single Sign On:
This method adds another application shortcut with a different target CommCell. When this new application shortcut is used to launch application, it will automatically access the new CommCell. |
To change the target CommCell for Single Sign On:
This method changes the target CommCell for the Single Sign On feature. When this application shortcut is used to launch application, it will automatically access the new CommCell. |
An alert can be configured to send e-mail notifications to user groups created from within the CommCell Console as well as external domain user groups. However, individual external domain users will not receive the alert notification e-mail if they have not previously logged on to the CommCell Console. Users (from the user groups created from within the CommCell Console) will receive the alert e-mail notification regardless of their login status.
A scheduled report can be configured to be sent via e-mail to user groups created from within the CommCell Console as well as external domain user groups. However, individual external domain users will not receive the report via e-mail if they have not previously logged on to the CommCell Console. Users (from the user groups created from within the CommCell Console) will receive the report e-mail regardless of their login status.
Property sheet locking disables multiple users from editing the same property sheet at the same time. When a user opens a specific property sheet, all other users are locked out. If you are locked out of a property sheet, you will receive a message indicating which user has the sheet locked and you will be informed that the sheet is read-only. The modifications you made while the property sheet was read-only will not be saved. When the user that has the lock is finished with a property sheet, the lock is released appropriately and other users can modify the property sheet.
Property sheet locks will time out when a user has that sheet locked for more than 90 minutes. When the 90 minute time interval has elapsed, other users can modify the property sheet.
If a user accesses a property sheet from the backup set/instance level, all property sheets under these levels are locked. Additionally, if a user locks the subclient of a backup set/instance, then all property sheets of these level(s) are also locked.
If a user accesses a property sheet from a library, then all property sheets below that level are also locked. Additionally, if a user locks any property sheet under the library level, then those levels are also locked.
