Configure Mailboxes for Auto-Discovery

Before You Begin

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

Select the desired procedure:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set or All Subclients migration set containing the mailboxes that you want to configure for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then select Enable Auto-Discover and select Match mailboxes by regular expressions. Click OK to save the changes.
  3. If you would like to enable auto-discovery on the default subclient, then continue on with this step, otherwise skip to Step 5. Right-click the default subclient of the backup set, content index set or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  4. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then select Automatically add new mailboxes that don't qualify for membership in any of the sub-clients and click OK to save the change.
  5. Right-click a user-defined subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  6. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then enter a wildcard pattern in the Mailbox Display Names field to specify that newly discovered mailbox display names matching that pattern during auto-discovery will be assigned to this subclient. Click Add. Repeat this step to enter additional wildcard patterns. See Wildcards for a list of supported wildcards.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.
  8. If there are other user-defined subclients contained within this backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, repeat steps 5 through 7 for each of the other user-defined subclients, specifying a unique set of wildcard patterns for each subclient.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any newly discovered mailboxes will be assigned to the content of the respective subclient whose name patterns match the specified name pattern of the new mailboxes. Any newly discovered mailboxes that do not match any of the name patterns will be assigned to the default subclient.

wedge.gif (136 bytes)To Configure Mailbox Stores for Auto-Discovery using Database Affinity:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set containing the Mailbox Stores that you want to configure for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then select Enable Auto-Discover and select Database Affinity. Click OK to save the changes.
  3. If you would like to enable auto-discovery on the default subclient, then continue on with this step, otherwise skip to Step 5. Right-click the default subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  4. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then select Automatically add new mailboxes that don't qualify for membership in any of the sub-clients and click OK to save the change.
  5. Right-click a user-defined subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  6. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then click Configuration.
  7. From the Configure Mailbox Stores for Auto-discovery dialog, click the Subclient field of each Mailbox Store that you want to assign and select the desired subclient from the list. Alternatively, you can select and assign a range of Mailbox Stores to a single subclient using the Change all selected stores to list. Click OK to save the assignments.
  8. Click OK to save the changes.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any newly discovered mailboxes found within the database associated with a given subclient, will be assigned to the content of that subclient. Any newly discovered mailboxes in new Mailbox Stores that are not assigned to any subclient will be assigned to the default subclient.

wedge.gif (136 bytes)To Configure Active Directory User Groups for Auto-Discovery:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set containing the subclients that you want to configure for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then select Enable Auto-Discover and select AD User Group Affinity. Click OK to save the changes.
  3. If you would like to enable auto-discovery on the default subclient, then continue on with this step, otherwise skip to Step 5. Right-click the default subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  4. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then select Automatically add new mailboxes that don't qualify for membership in any of the sub-clients and click OK to save the change.
  5. Right-click a user-defined subclient of the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, then click Properties.
  6. Click on the Auto-discovery tab, then click Configuration.
  7. From the Configure AD User Group for Auto-discovery dialog perform the following tasks:
  8. Once you have assigned all the groups, click OK to save the assignments on the Configure AD User Group for Auto-discovery dialog.
  9. Click OK to save the changes on the Auto-discovery tab.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any newly discovered mailboxes found within the Active Directory User Group associated with a given subclient, will be assigned to the content of that subclient. Any newly discovered mailboxes in new Active Directory User Groups that are not assigned to any subclient will be assigned to the default subclient.

wedge.gif (136 bytes)To Disable Auto-Discovery for the Backup Set or All Subclients Migration Set:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set containing the subclients that want to disable for auto-discovery, then click Properties.
  2. Click on the Auto Discover tab, then clear the checkbox for Enable Auto-Discover and this will disable auto-discovery for all subclients contained within the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set.
  3. Click OK to save the changes.

The next time a backup, content indexing, or migration is run for the selected backup set, content index set, or All Subclients migration set, any new mailboxes will not be automatically discovered nor assigned to the content of any subclient.
