Overview

The CommCell Console is the graphical user interface that allows you to control and manage a CommCell.

Launch CommCell Console - Windows

To launch the CommCell Console on a Windows Computer:

  1. Click the Start button on the Windows task bar and then click Programs.
  2. Select bull from the Programs menu and then select Calypso.
  3. Click CommCell Console GUI.
  4. Enter the User Name, Password, and name of the CommCell you wish to connect to.

    Click OK to continue.

    In a few moments, the CommCell Console will open.

Launch CommCell Console - Macintosh

To launch the CommCell Console on a Macintosh Computer:

  1. Log on as a root user to the Macintosh computer that has the CommCell Console (stand-alone application version) installed.
  2. From a Terminal window, type console and press Return. The Connect to CommCell window is displayed.
  3. Enter the User Name, Password, and name of the CommCell you wish to connect to.

    Click OK to log in.

    In a few moments, the CommCell Console will open.

Basic Console Components

The CommCell Console menu and icon toolbars provide access to the following CommCell Management operations and administrative tasks. These functionalities are also accessible by right-clicking a job, event or component within its respective window. You can navigate through any open CommCell Console windows by using the standard window functions or by using the ctrl+tab keyboard function.

Menu Bar

The menu bar, located at the top of the CommCell Console, provides access to features and administrative options available for the CommCell. These entities are described in the following table:

Tool Bar

The Tool Bar provides graphical icons for quick access to several commonly used CommCell Console menu bar functionalities, including Help topics, the Control Panel window, and the Job Controller window.

Navigation Pane

The navigation pane has two tabs: Content tab and Summary tab.

Content tab

This tab displays a list of entities that belong to the selected CommCell Component.

For example: When you select Client Computers node from the CommCell Browser, the Content tab displays the list of all the clients connected to the CommServe.

You can also use this tab to access any CommCell component.

Summary Tab

This tab displays properties of the selected CommCell Component.

For Example: When you select Client Computers node, the Summary tab displays agent-specific classification of all the clients connected to the CommServe.

The Navigation pane displays the content and summary of the following CommCell Console components:

CommCell Browser

The CommCell Browser displays the following CommCell components, as well as the administrative and operational tasks associated with them, in a hierarchical tree structure:

Agents

The Agents view displays all the Agents currently configured within the CommCell.

Search (Content Indexing)

The Search (Content Indexing) view provides options for searching for files and mail messages within the CommCell. See Data Discovery and Search for an overview.

Summary Window

When selected from the Tool Bar or Tools menu, the Summary Window provides quick access to each of the CommCell Browser components.

When an individual entity is selected in the CommCell Browser, the Summary Window displays the contents of the selected entity. The tab name changes to correspond to the particular entity that is selected.

The SRM Enterprise Viewer provides its own Summary Window, which is accessible by clicking any entity within the SRM Enterprise Viewer. Details displayed can include Advisories, Charts, Storage Resources, and the Properties of the entity.

Job Controller

The Job Controller window displays all the current jobs in the CommCell. A status bar at the bottom of the job controller shows the total amount of jobs; the amount of jobs that are running, pending, waiting, queued and suspended; and the high and low watermarks. The watermarks indicate the minimum and maximum number of streams that the Job Manager can use simultaneously.

Event Viewer

The Event Viewer allows you to monitor activities that are occurring within the CommCell. This information is useful for troubleshooting and informational purposes.
