So perform the following before uninstalling the agent:
- Ensure that there are no active jobs for this agent.
- Delete the Replication Set.
|
- Click Yes to confirm.
|
- If you are uninstalling the CommCell Explorer, this step completes the
uninstall process.
- If you are uninstalling the CommServe, observe the following:
- Make sure all other platforms are uninstalled before
continuing.
- You will need to provide the SQL password for the System
Administrator account before continuing.
|
- Select the desired language and click Next to continue.
If you are not uninstalling a
MediaAgent, skip to Step 8.
- Click Yes to delete any configured storage policies.
|

Policy, you can re-install the MediaAgent in a new directory or on a
new computer without losing the data. |
- Type Confirm to confirm the removal of
the MediaAgent software and then click
OK.
- Click Yes to delete the folder containing
your log files, job control files and program files.
- Click Yes to delete the install folder.
|
You will be prompted to delete the install folder
only if the component you are uninstalling is the last component
remaining on the computer. |
- Click
OK.
This completes the software uninstall procedure.
Post-Uninstall Considerations
- Once all components have been uninstalled, you must uninstall the Base
software. The Base software can be uninstalled by repeating this procedure.

have been uninstalled.
Uninstall Components from a Windows Computer - Clustered Environment
Before You Begin
To uninstall
components from a Windows computer in a clustered environment:
- Log on to the computer as the Domain User with administrative
privileges to all nodes in the cluster. If the
currently active node is not the original node, manually fail over the
active node to the original node and then perform the uninstall.
|
To figure out whether a node is the original owner, open the
Add/Remove Programs icon from the
Windows Control Panel and verify whether
there is an entry for the component that is being uninstalled. The entry
will be available only in the original owner node. |
- Open the Add/Remove Programs icon in the
system’s Control Panel.
For Windows Vista, click Uninstall a Program under Programs in the Control Panel.
- Select the component to be uninstalled, including
the virtual server and then click Remove.
|
- If you are uninstalling components from a Microsoft Windows
Vista or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 platform, a message is displayed asking if you would like to
stop services prior to continuing the uninstall. Select Do Not
Close Applications if this message appears.
- If you are uninstalling from a computer that uses
Multi Instancing,
you will see the Instance number to which each component was installed;
be sure to select the correct instance of the component you want to remove.
|
- Click Yes to confirm.
|
|
|
When you uninstall a MediaAgent without deleting a Storage
Policy, you can re-install the MediaAgent in a new directory or on a
new computer without losing the data. |
- Type Confirm to confirm the removal of
the MediaAgent software and then click
OK.
- Click Yes to delete the folder containing
your log files, job control files and program files.
- Click Yes to All, then
Yes to remove any shared files that exist.
The uninstall will only remove files installed by the component software.
|
- If some elements of the program could not be uninstalled, a
dialog box indicates this condition. A file may still be open or in
use. Click
Details for a listing of the files or folders that could not
be uninstalled.
- If you are uninstalling the CommServe, observe the following:
- The uninstall program does not delete the
<install directory>/base folder.
These folders are only removed when your host machine is restarted.
If you do not want to restart your host system, then manually delete
these folders.
|
From your Cluster Administrator, verify that the cluster resources
were removed.
- Press <F5> to refresh the Add/Remove Programs screen.

Using Registry Editor incorrectly can
cause serious problems that may require a reinstall of the operating
system. Microsoft does not guarantee that problems resulting from
the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry
Editor at your own risk. You must also understand how to restore the
registry if a problem occurs. For information about how to
backup and restore the registry, refer to the appropriate Registry
Help Topic provided in Regedit.exe
or Regedt32.exe. |
- In the registry, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
and delete the
appropriate registry key for your operating system:
QsnpWNET
QsnpXP
QsnpW2K
- In the registry, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} and
remove qsnap from the value data for the
UpperFilters key.
Remove QSnap
Drivers Manually from Unix Computers
Before You Begin
To manually remove QSnap (CXBF) drivers from Unix computers:
- Unmount all CXBF devices or quit applications that are using raw CXBF
devices.
- Use the command line utility in /usr/sbin/cvsnap
to invoke the cvsnap command.
- Type the show command to see all CXBF
devices.
- Defunct and delete all devices (e.g.: cvsnap>defunct
device=c1t0d5s0 and cvsnap>delete
device=c1t0d5s0); perform both operations for one device before
moving to the next one. If you get an error message that says a device is
busy, return to step 1.
- After defuncting and deleting all CXBF devices, quit
cvsnap. (Type q
and press Enter.)
- Execute the following commands: rm /usr/sbin/cxbf-bootscript1.rc
and rm /usr/sbin/cxbf-bootscript2.rc.
- Remove all CXBF device entries from
/etc/devlink.tab.
- Execute the following commands:
rm /usr/kernel/drv/sparcv9/cxbf
and rm /usr/kernel/drv/cxbf.conf.
- Execute the following command:
rem_drv.conf. If you
get an error message, return to step 1. If it still fails, then reboot after
step 10 to unload the CXBF driver from the system.
- Execute the following commands:
rm /usr/sbin/cvsnap and
rm /etc/galaxy/.*.
Deconfigure a CXBF Device in Volume Explorer
Use the following procedure to deconfigure CXBF devices using
Volume Explorer.
Before You Begin
-
If a CXBF device on AIX was configured using Volume Explorer (where the
CXBF device was added to /etc/filesystems),
be sure to mount the CXBF device before you deconfigure it. If an unmounted
CXBF device on AIX is deconfigured using Volume Explorer, the
/etc/filesystems system file will be out of
synchronization with the actual file system configuration.
If /etc/filesystems and the actual file
system configuration get out of synchronization, a manual edit of
/etc/filesystems is required to correct the
inconsistencies. Remove the cxbf entry and uncomment the original entry (that
is, remove "*Galaxy" from the beginning of each line).
-
If you encounter errors while configuring or deconfiguring CXBF devices on
the client, go to /cvd.log on the client for
more detailed information concerning the error.
Required Capability: See
Capabilities
and Permitted Actions
To deconfigure
a CXBF device:
- From the Tools menu in the CommCell Console, select Control Panel.
- Double-click Volume Explorer and then click Yes at the warning
prompt.
- Select the host connected to the volume you want to configure.
- Right-click the volume and select Deconfigure cxbf device.
- Click Ok to deconfigure the cxbf device.

Before You Begin
You can perform agent operations as long as the agent is installed and
appears enabled in the CommCell Browser. However, if you have no need to
run jobs on the agent data of a client computer, you may want
to delete the agent that resides on that computer. Once you have uninstalled or DeConfigured
the agent, the corresponding icon in the CommCell Browser is grayed out. While
this icon exists, you can recover data from the agent to another client. If you
delete this icon, all of the agent's data is irretrievably lost.
NOTES
Deleting the agent is a two-phase process.
- You need to uninstall or DeConfigure the agent software
from the client computer. Doing so frees an agent license, thereby allowing
you to install it on some other computer whose data you do want to secure.
- After you delete the client software, you can either leave the corresponding
data
intact for appropriate action, or you can remove the data immediately. If you choose
to remove the data immediately, you must delete the agent from the CommCell
Browser.
Required Capability: See
Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To delete
an agent:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the icon of the agent that you want to delete, and then click Delete.
(The agent software must first have been uninstalled/DeConfigured or the delete option on the shortcut menu
will not appear.)
- A warning message prompts you with the following:
This operation will permanently delete the data backed up from this level
and it cannot be restored. Click Ok to continue with the
deletion operation. (Clicking No will abort the operation.)
- From the Confirmation Text dialog box, enter the confirmation
text string, erase and reuse media. Click
Ok. The agent icon and the data that corresponds to the selected agent
will be deleted. Consequently, you will not be able to browse or recover
this data.
Before You Begin
- Before deleting the client computer for most agents, remove the base
client software.
- In order to remove the base client
software, there must be no agents installed on the client computer.
Required Capability:
Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To delete a client computer:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the icon of the client computer that you want to
delete, click All Tasks and then click Delete from the short-cut menu.

computer.
- A confirmation message appears. Click Yes to delete the client computer
or click No to cancel the deletion.
If you click Yes, the backup data that corresponds to the
selected client computer is deleted. Consequently, you will not be able to browse or restore this
data. If you click Yes, the client computer icon is removed from the
view.
Before You Begin
- For NAS clients, the client must first be deconfigured before you can
delete it. For more information, see
Deconfiguring Agents.
Required Capability:
Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To delete a
pseudo-client:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the icon of the pseudo-client that you want to
delete, click All Tasks and then click Delete from the short-cut menu.
For a NAS client, if the Delete command is not shown, you
have not deconfigured the client, and the Deconfigure command will be
shown instead; refer to
Deconfiguring Agents.
(There is no base client software for a NAS Client.)
- A confirmation message is displayed. Click OK, type the supplied phrase in the
Enter Confirmation Text dialog box, and click OK. The
pseudo-client icon should be removed from the view.
Required Capability:
Capabilities and Permitted Actions
To
delete a client computer group:
- From the CommCell Browser, right-click the icon of the client computer
group that you want to
delete, click All Tasks and then click Delete from the short-cut menu.
- A confirmation message appears. Click Yes to delete the client computer
group or click No to cancel the deletion.
If you click Yes, the client computer group is deleted. However, the clients of the group are still available.
