Deployment - NAS NDMP iDataAgents

The following sections provide information on NAS NDMP iDataAgent deployment:

Install

Pre-Install The following describe the hardware related issues that you must consider before installing the software:

Driver Configurations provides step-by-step instructions on how to verify that the appropriate drivers are ready and working properly on the computer in which you wish to install the software.

Obtain information about your NAS File Server (e.g., NAS NDMP server device names, drive access paths, device name of media changers), which you will need during the software installation. Refer to your vendor documentation.

Select your particular environment on the System Requirements - NAS NDMP clients link pages, as well as System Requirements - MediaAgent and System Requirements - Microsoft Windows File System iDataAgent to view the minimum requirements for installing the iDataAgent and MediaAgent.

NetApp NAS File Servers only
After attaching the NetApp NAS file server and MediaAgent machine to the library and before you begin your installation, verify that the NDMP service is enabled in the NetApp file server.

Unix NAS NDMP Clients
Select the link for your Unix system on the Configure Kernel Parameters - Unix/Macintosh page to determine the parameter values for the shared memory and semaphores within the system.

For Unix platforms, Ensure Restarting of Services Using crontab in the event services go down during a procedure or job.

Install There is no separate iDataAgent software to install for NAS NDMP clients; all required components are installed automatically with the MediaAgent software. The following components must be installed and configured on any MediaAgent(s) which will be used for data protection and recovery operations for NAS file servers:
  1. MediaAgent - For complete information, refer to MediaAgent Deployment.

  2. Windows File System iDataAgent - Required when using a Windows MediaAgent. For complete information, refer to Deployment - Windows File System iDataAgent. (For a Unix MediaAgent, the File System iDataAgent is not required.)

  3. Additional components:
    • NRS Install

Installing the NDMP Remote Server software (which is required if your library is attached to the MediaAgent) on a Windows computer is optional. On Windows, this installation can be performed at the same time as the MediaAgent:

Install the File System NDMP Remote Server (Unix) provides step-by-step instructions for installing the optional NDMP Remote Server software (which is required if your library is attached to the MediaAgent) on a Unix computer. On Unix, this is a separate installation from the MediaAgent. Hitachi NAS NDMP does not support libraries attached to the file server, and thus requires NRS. You must have an available license for the NDMP Remote Server; see License Administration for more information.
    • NetApp/EMC Celerra NAS File Servers only - File System NDMP Restore Enabler
File System NDMP Restore Enabler (Windows) provides step-by-step instructions for installing the optional File System NDMP Restore Enabler, which allows NAS data to be restored to a Windows computer. File System NDMP Restore Enabler (Unix) provides step-by-step instructions for installing the optional File System NDMP Restore Enabler, which allows NAS data to be restored to a Unix computer. You must have an available license for the File System NDMP Restore Enabler. See License Administration for more information.
Configuration Hardware Configuration If you have not configured the library and drives, you must do so before using the software. For more information, see the following:
  • NAS NDMP Library and Drive Configuration provides step-by-step instructions for configuring libraries or stand alone drives attached to a NAS file server, a library attached to a MediaAgent with NDMP Remote Server installed, or a library attached to a SAN network.
Software Configuration Once the library and drives have been configured, the following configuration tasks are required before you can begin using the NAS NDMP client for data protection and recovery operations:

For NAS NDMP subclients using NRS, there are specific considerations for storage policies to be used. For more information, see NAS NDMP Clients.

Upgrade Upgrade the NAS NDMP iDataAgents - Windows and Unix provides step-by-step instructions for upgrading the iDataAgents in a Windows and Unix environment.

Automatic Upgrade provides step-by-step instructions for running or scheduling an automatic upgrade of the client or MediaAgent.

Uninstall

Uninstall There is no separate iDataAgent software to uninstall for NAS NDMP iDataAgents. The following components may be uninstalled or deconfigured on any MediaAgent(s) which were used for data protection and recovery operations for NAS NDMP:

Deconfiguring Agents provides information and links on deconfiguring the MediaAgent or the NAS NDMP client.

Delete a Pseudo-Client provides step-by-step instructions for deleting the client.

For uninstall procedures for the MediaAgent or Windows File System iDataAgent, or for NDMP Remote Server (NRS), refer to Uninstalling Components.
