Overview

NDMP Remote Server is a software component that allows data from NAS file servers to be backed up to a library attached to a MediaAgent. NRS is optional for the NAS NDMP iDataAgents.

To use a drive pool configured to a MediaAgent to back up NAS NDMP data, the NRS software must be installed on that MediaAgent. Once the NRS software is installed, any storage policy configured to use a drive pool on that MediaAgent will be selectable as a backup destination from the NAS NDMP Client's Subclient Properties Storage Policy Selection screen.

Note that NRS backups and restores will not be LAN-free, unlike backups and restores using a library attached to the NAS file server.

See Storage Policy Considerations for additional information regarding the use of NRS.

Installation

Installing the NDMP Remote Server software (which is required if your library is attached to the MediaAgent) on a Windows computer is optional. The NDMP Remote Server can be installed during the installation of the MediaAgent software:

Install the File System NDMP Remote Server (Unix) provides step-by-step instructions for installing the optional NDMP Remote Server software (which is required if your library is attached to the MediaAgent) on a Unix computer. On Unix, this is a separate installation from the MediaAgent.

Hitachi NAS NDMP does not support libraries attached to the file server, and thus requires NRS. You must have an available license for the NDMP Remote Server; see License Administration for more information.

License Requirements

This feature requires a Feature License to be available in the CommServe® Server.

Review general license requirements included in License Administration. Also, View All Licenses provides step-by-step instructions on how to view the license information.

Upgrade

The NDMP Remote Server software is installed on a MediaAgent computer and hence automatically upgraded when a MediaAgent upgrade is performed. For details, refer to Upgrade the NDMP Remote Server (NRS).
