Quick Start

The following diagram illustrates the sequence of operations for getting started with this Agent.


Where to go From Here

  1. Get familiar with CommCell Console. The CommCell Console is the graphical user interface that allows you to control and manage a CommCell. See CommCell Console for more information.
  2. Activate the license. If the Agent was installed using an evaluation license, make sure to activate the license. See Update Licenses for step-by-step instructions.
  3. Fine-tune the components using the following key features:

    Operations

    Offline Content Indexing

    Perform Offline Content Indexing operations on storage data secured by various data protection/data archive operations.

    Restore

    Perform Restore to extract full copies of data objects returned as search results. There are several options to restore the discovered data.

    Data Discovery and Search

    Perform Search for Content Indexed Data. There are several options to search for content indexed data.

    Configuration

    Content Indexing Engine

    The Content Indexing Engine provides indexing, searching and filtering services for all data - including file server/desktop data and protected/archived data. It is displayed as a level under Storage Resources in the CommCell Browser.

    Offline Content Indexing

    There are several configurable options available for Content Indexing.

    Web Search Server

    The Web Search Server provides a multi-purpose and flexible web-based search interface to search and if necessary restore data. Several configurable options are available at this level.

    Administration

    Data Aging

    Data Aging is the removal of data from media and is based on the retention rules for aging data. By default, the retention rules are set to infinite. You can define retention rules based on the storage requirements of your organization.
