Add Additional Schedules To a Schedule Policy

Before You Begin

To add additional schedules to a schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy, and then click Properties.
  2. From the General tab of the Schedule Policy Details dialog box, from the schedules pane, click Add.
  3. From the General tab of the Schedule Details - Schedule Policy dialog box, change the appropriate fields. You can also change the backup type from the Job Options tab. Click OK.
  4. The schedule you added is displayed in the Data Protection Schedules pane.
  5. Click OK.

Decouple a Scheduled Job From a Schedule Policy

Before You Begin

To decouple a scheduled job from a schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe node, and then click All Tasks > Schedules.
  2. From the Scheduled Jobs dialog box, select the backup or Auxiliary Copy job that you want to decouple, and then click Decouple.
  3. From the Confirm Decouple confirmation window, click OK to decouple the selected objects from the schedule policy.

Delete a Schedule Policy

To delete a schedule from a schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy, click All Tasks and then click Delete.
  2. Click Yes to the confirmation message.

Disable or Enable a Schedule Policy or Groups of Schedule Policies

Before You Begin

Once a schedule policy is disabled, any scheduled job will not run until the schedule policy is enabled.

To disable or enable a schedule policy or multiple schedule policies:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy or groups of schedule policies, click All Tasks and then click Disable.

    NOTE: Multiple schedule policies can be selected simultaneously for the purpose of enabling/disabling.

  2. The schedule policy (or groups of schedule policies) are now disabled. You can enable any of the disabled schedule policies by clicking the Enable option.

Clone a Schedule Policy

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

To clone a schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy, click All Tasks and then click Clone.
  2. Type the name for the new schedule policy in the Enter name box of the Clone Schedule Policy dialog box. Click OK. The new schedule policy is displayed in the right pane of the Schedule Policies level of the CommCell Browser.

NOTES

The newly created schedule policy that was cloned from another schedule policy is disabled by default. It is recommended that you make the necessary changes to the schedule policy before enabling the policy. To edit and enable the schedule policy:

  1. Right-click the schedule policy and then click Properties. From the Schedule Policy Details dialog box, change any of the options, if necessary. Click OK.
  2. Right-click the schedule policy, click All Tasks, and then click Enable. The schedule policy is now enabled and ready for use.

Modify a Schedule of a Schedule Policy

Before You Begin

Schedules policies cannot be edited by multiple users simultaneously. If a user attempts to edit a schedule policy that is currently being viewed by another user, a warning message will display indicating that the property sheet is currently being edited, and therefore, locked. Users will only have the option to view the schedule policy without making any changes to it.

To modify the schedule of a schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy, and then click Properties.
  2. From the General tab of the Schedule Policy Details dialog box, select a schedule from the schedules pane and click Edit.
  3. From the Schedule Details dialog box, change the appropriate fields. You can also change the backup options or the SRM Data Collection options from the Job Options tab, the export report-to-file and Predictive Trending options for an SRM Reports job from the Options tab, and the options for an Auxiliary Copy job from the Auxiliary Copy Options tab.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

Modify the Name of a Schedule Policy

Before you Begin

To modify the schedule of a schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy, and then click Properties.
  2. From the General tab of the Schedule Policy Details dialog box, type the new name in the Name box.
  3. Click OK.

View a Schedule Policy

To view a schedule policy:

From the CommCell Browser, click the Schedule Policies node. All existing schedule policies are displayed in the right-hand side of the CommCell Browser.


Run the Schedules of a Schedule Policy Immediately

To run the schedules of a schedule policy immediately:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies icon, right-click the schedule policy, click All Tasks and then click Run Schedules.
  2. From the Run Schedules dialog box, select the schedule(s) for which you wish to run immediately, and then click Run Immediately.
  3. Click Yes to the confirmation message.

NOTES

You can also run the schedules of a schedule policy immediately by following the procedure Run a Scheduled Job Immediately.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy, and then click Properties.
  2. From the General tab of the Schedule Policy properties dialog box, click the schedule for removal and then click Delete.
  3. Click Yes to the confirmation message.
  4. Click OK.

To configure an alert for a Schedule Policy

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies icon, right-click the schedule policy, click All Tasks, and then click Add Alert.
  2. Follow the steps in the Add Alert Wizard.
  3. Click Finish on the Summary step.
  4. Click OK.

The alert name is displayed in the Alert column for the Schedule Policies node on the right-hand side of the CommCell Browser .

Delete an Alert of a Schedule Policy

To delete an alert of a Schedule Policy

From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies icon, right-click the schedule policy, click All Tasks and then click Delete Alert. The alert is removed from the schedule policy.

You can also delete an alert from the Alert tab of the Schedule Policy Details dialog box by clicking Delete Alert.


Create an Auxiliary Copy Schedule Policy

Before You Begin

Only one schedule can be added to an Auxiliary Copy schedule policy.

To create a Auxiliary Copy schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the Schedule Policies node, then click New Schedule Policy.
  2. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, type the name of the schedule policy, select the type of schedule policy (Auxiliary Copy), and include a brief description.
  3. Click Add to define the schedule.
  4. Define a schedule from the General tab of the Schedule Details dialog box.
  5. You can select additional Auxiliary Copy options from the AuxCopy Options dialog box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select the New Schedule Policy - Associations tab. Select the storage policies and/or storage policy copies be associated with the schedule policy. Click Select All to add association to all storage policies, if necessary.
  8. Click the Alert tab:
  9. Click OK. The schedule policy is displayed in the CommCell Browser.

Create an SRM Data Collection Schedule Policy

To create an SRM Data Collection Schedule Policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the Schedule Policies node, then click New Schedule Policy.
  2. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, enter a name for the schedule policy, select the type of schedule policy (SRM Data Collection), select an agent for this schedule policy or All Agent Types, and include a brief description.
  3. Click Add to define the schedule.
  4. Define a schedule from the Schedule Details tab of the Schedule Details dialog box.
  5. Select the type of Data Collection from the Job Options tab. Click the Advanced button to specify the Advanced Options: Startup and Job Retry.
note.gif (292 bytes) A discovery level data collection job can be associated with the Client or the Agent along with the default Subclient while creating the schedule policy.
  1. Click OK. The schedule pattern are populated in the Schedule Policy Schedules pane.
  2. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, click the Associations tab:

  4. Click OK. The new schedule policy is displayed in the CommCell Browser.

Create an SRM Reports Schedule Policy

Required Capability: See Capabilities and Permitted Actions

To create an Agent Specific or All Agent Types data protection schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the Schedule Policies node, then click New Schedule Policy.
  2. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, enter a name for the schedule policy, select the type of schedule policy (SRM Reports) and include a brief description.
  3. Click Add to define the schedule.
  4. Define a schedule from the Schedule Details tab of the Schedule Details dialog box.
  5. Select report-to-file exporting and Predictive Trending options regarding the SRM reports from the Options tab.
  6. Click OK. The status of the report-to-file exporting and Predictive Trending options along with the schedule pattern are populated in the Schedule Policy Schedules pane.
  7. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, click the Associations tab:
  8. Click the Alert tab:
  9. Click OK. The new schedule policy is displayed in the CommCell Browser.

Change the Association of an Auxiliary Copy Schedule Policy

To change the association of an Auxiliary Copy schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies node, right-click the schedule policy, and then click Properties.
  2. From the Associations tab of the Schedule Policy Details dialog box, select the storage policies and/or storage policy copies you want to associate to this schedule policy. You can also click Select All, to select all storage policies and their copies within the window, or click Clear All, which clears all selected storage policies and storage policy copies.
  3. Click OK.

Create a Backup Copy Schedule Policy

Before You Begin

Only one schedule can be added to a Backup Copy schedule policy.

To create a Backup Copy schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the Schedule Policies node, then click New Schedule Policy.
  2. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, type the name of the schedule policy, select the type of schedule policy (Backup Copy), and include a brief description.
  3. Click Add to define the schedule.
  4. Define a schedule from the General tab of the Schedule Details dialog box.
  5. You can select additional Auxiliary Copy options from the Snap to Tape Options dialog box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select the New Schedule Policy - Associations tab. Select the storage policies and/or storage policy copies be associated with the schedule policy. Click Select All to add association to all storage policies, if necessary.
  8. Click OK. The schedule policy is displayed in the CommCell Browser.

Change the Association of a Backup Copy Schedule Policy

Change the Association of an SRM Reports Schedule Policy

If a user attempts to edit a schedule policy that is currently being viewed by another user, a warning message will display indicating that the property sheet is currently being edited, and therefore, locked. Users will only have the option to view the schedule policy without making any changes to it.

To change association of an SRM Reports Schedule Policy

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies icon, right-click the schedule policy, and then click Properties.
  2. From the Associations tab of the Schedule Policy Details dialog box, select the names of the appropriate reports per agent. If you select an agent name, all the reports under the agent will be associated with this schedule policy. These items are denoted by an up arrow.

    You can also click Select All, to select all the reports for all the agents, or click Clear All to clear all the selections.

  3. Click OK.

Create an Agent Specific or All Agent Types Data Protection Schedule Policy

Before You Begin

A maximum of six schedules can be added for a Data Protection or All Agent Types schedule policy.

To create an Agent Specific or All Agent Types data protection schedule policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the Schedule Policies node, then click New Schedule Policy.
  2. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, enter a name for the schedule policy, select the type of schedule policy (Data Protection), select an agent for this schedule policy or All Agent Types, and include a brief description.
  3. Click Add to define the schedule.
  4. Define a schedule from the Schedule Details tab of the Schedule Details dialog box.
  5. Select the type of backup from the Job Options tab. Click the Advanced button to specify the Advanced Backup Options: Data, Startup, Job Retry, Media, VaultTracking, Backup Archive Logs, Delete Archive Logs, and Oracle Options.
  6. Click OK. The backup type and the schedule pattern are populated in the Data Protection Schedules pane.
  7. From the New Schedule Policy dialog box, click the Associations tab:
  8. Click the Alert tab:
  9. Click OK. The new schedule policy is displayed in the CommCell Browser.

Users will only have the option to view the schedule policy without making any changes to it.

To change association of an Agent Specific or All Agent Types Data Protection Schedule Policy or an SRM Data Collection Schedule Policy

  1. From the CommCell Browser, select the Schedule Policies icon, right-click the schedule policy, and then click Properties.
  2. From the Associations tab of the Schedule Policy Details dialog box, select either one or more client computer group(s), client(s), backup set(s), subclient(s), or any combination. All items under the one chosen will be associated with this schedule policy. If a client computer group, client, or backup set is selected, all current and future items under the one selected will be included in the schedule policy. These items are denoted by an up arrow.

    You can also click Select All, to select all the client computer group(s) and/or client(s) listed for the agent, or click Clear All to clear all the selections.

  3. Click OK.

NOTES

For the association of a client computer group, once the client computer group is associated, all clients that are members of the client computer group will also be associated. Note that you can, in addition, select the member clients individually, or select their backup sets, instances/partitions, or subclients. Selecting a client again for association will result in multiple, duplicate schedules of the same subclients. It is recommended that a schedule policy should not be associated with a client if that client is already a member of a client computer group for which the same schedule policy is already associated.
